Went to see dr about getting the coil and she gave me two swabs to take.

What are these to test for?

Infections

Like stdS?

They won’t insert a coil until they’re sure you have no pelvic infections of any kind. It can have an impact on your fertility and health if not dealt with. It’s standard practice.

Most likely thrush and BV and maybe even a smear. I had them when I had mine fitted but for the life of my me I can’t remember what she said they were testing for. Coil has been a life changer for me though!

Any infections. Your body is pretty good at keeping them out, if you have any kind of vaginal infection, by putting the coil in it'll transfer it into your womb

Ok so I got my swans done four weeks ago and I’m getting the coil fitted next week (my docs are very slow)

But three weeks ago I had a bad bout of thrush I got the tablet and cream for it and it went away. For the last two weeks during sex it burns during and after it is so so sore. Will they check for anything before fitting? Could this still be thrush? Should I put back my fitting it’s took so bloody long as it is

Gonorrhoea and chlamydia are tested for as it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. Not sure what else but definitely those two. It’s just standard for everyone.

I never had swabs before mine. Should I have? It's been in since October.

I had a coil fitted for three years , got it removed last September when ttc , I never got swabbed ? They didn’t even do a pregnancy test for me . Weird

My doctor gave me the swabs to do at home then I dropped them in...she said I wouldn’t be fitted for a coil unless I done them
