To want to be a DJ? AIBU

Love music, always wanted to be a DJ since I was young, but life happened and I’ve now just turned 30. But my age is holding me back, I feel like most successful DJs started in their teens/early twenties. London sound Academy do DJ courses, AIBU to just go for it? I work full time, and would like to do this on the side and hopefully turn it into a full time job. Anyone here know any female DJs?

Club DJ, or radio presenter?

I'm a radio presenter. Hence asking.

I say go for it! If it works out, brilliant. If not at least you will have tried. You don't want to look back at your life and regret not taking a chance. Good luck.

Me! I would never do it full time as I hate doing weddings tbh - just play at bars and festivals and birthday party’s! You gotta just get yourself out there as all the Local bars can you play !! I don’t think it’s viable as a full time job

What kind of music do you play? What equipment do you have

Moonmelodies · 15/02/2020 19:53

How many records do you have?

djwannabe · 15/02/2020 21:15

@Moonmelodies I'm just starting out.

@KaptenKrusty can I ask why do you hate weddings? Where did you learn and how did you start? Blush

I'm a dj. You don't need to do a course, just learn yourself from YouTube and reading. I only started at the age of 32.

I also don't enjoy doing weddings, you don't get to choose the music you want to and people always have awful requests. It can be stressful.

Am happy to advise if you want to PM me.

Just taught myself really - got a mixer and just practiced constantly! You tube was helpful too

I don’t really dj with vinyl anymore - its too heavy to be dragging around 1 also most bars don’t even have that set up!

Usually these days I just take my laptop with all my music on it - sometimes I only need to take a memory stick with my music on it and can play from that! :)
