To ask how long it takes for antibiotics to work

I’ve had such a rough time recently , septic tonsillitis , respiratory infection, return of tonsillitis . I was on Amoxicillin , went back to the drs when it returned and the dr told me I shouldn’t have been on Amoxicillin as it wasn’t strong enough for the infection I had which is why it returned . So I’ve been put On 10 days of Phenoxymethlypenicilin . I started them yesterday afternoon, finding it very hard to take on empty stomach as I’m pregnant and hungry a lot now my sickness has gone ! Anyway, I was wondering how long it takes for them to kick in as my throat is still killing me And swollen still, is 24 hours being a bit optimistic for me to be wanting to feel better ?

Any tips on how to manage pain in between ? My cough has finally settled down so I am sleeping but feel very sorry for myself!! I work for the nhs and use the phone etc at work which hasn’t helped my throat with talking all day .
Are ice lollies classed as food ?? Can I have one after taking my meds to ease my throat?
Thank you 😩

Tbh with all the infections you've had recently it might be a while before you start feeling better Flowers

For antibiotics to "work" you must take the whole course and return to your GP of you still feel awful near the end of the course in case you need more

Unfortunately with upper respiratory infections you can get in a bit of a cycle of repeated infections, so you must rest and take your medications as prescribed to fully recover ♥️

It’s usually about 48 hours assuming it’s the right antibiotic for the infection.

I known them take a week - ten days or up to six weeks. MRSA took six weeks to get rid of.

48hrs

@hula008 thank you it’s been awful!! I’m so so miserable as I want to enjoy the pregnancy but it’s hard when you feel so rough! I’ll hang in there and go back to the gp if they don’t make a difference by the end .
I saw an awful nurse in the walk in centre initially, who told me ‘not to go to her when my baby is born with deformities from being on antibiotics’ as if I have a choice in taking them ! I can hardly battle a bacterial infection including fever etc without medication ! The hospital put me on them initially . She upset me so much when I saw the gp he told me if I didn’t go on any more antibiotics I’d develop quinsy and I seriously need to be on them. Awful nurse!

About 48-72hrs for these specific ones from experience. Usually 48hrs is the rule of thumb. Though
