F**king B**tard FLU - how can I make it go away!

And yes it is flu. You don’t get temps of 103f and feel like you’re being plunged into freezing cold water every few seconds with a common cold or do you?

I am on Day 5 now and life as I know it has stopped. Missed quite a lot of important stuff. Just walking into the kitchen leaves me dizzy and weak. I didn’t have a sore throat but I have now as I can’t stop dry coughing and almost bringing up everything in my stomach.

I did everything right this winter as I started a health overhaul last summer. Lots of exercise for immunity, lots of fruit and veg, vitamin supplements including super strength Vit C and Zinc. Regularly drink loads of water, go to bed before midnight.

So why the AF have I got this?

Bloody furious!

Deepest Sympathies. I’m in the Same boat here, ‘it’s horrible and I blame nasty customers who cough over me and put there notes in there mouths before passing them to me to pay. I anti bac all the time but makes no difference.

When I had flu I couldn’t leave my bed. I was physically asleep for two days and bed bound for the next two. Sounds like a horrific cold though and you have my sympathies.

Did you have the flu jab this year out of interest? Flu is terrible, absolutely debilitating. I feel for you.

FlamingFreezing · 11/02/2020 19:02

Same here Kathy. I am constantly washing my hands, drummed it into DC as well, open public doors with my coat sleeve, I’m one of the few who wipes down all gym equipment before and after using it including the adjustment handles Blush.

So annoyed I’ve got this at a time I’ve got so much going on Angry.

However much those things did or didn’t help, what would have helped you more would be getting the flu jab.

Sorry. Hope you start to feel better soon.

In a similar boat OP.

Truly, all you can do is tip the odds in your favour. You’ve done the best you can. Even the flu jab is just tipping the odds, it’s not certain to save you. Nothing is.

It’ll take a while to recover, so don’t go crazy when you start to feel better.

I have been in bed for the best part of a fortnight and only really feeling more human last 2 days - now on day 16 😢
I was sleeping maybe 20 hours a day at worst points and could could barely walk downstairs to get drinks. Temperature 39+ at times. Still not had a normal temperature as yet
I'm so fed up and bored. I just want to be able to do normal stuff.
I had flu jab.
I cook from scratch, walk 10,000 steps a day etc etc

Namethecat · 11/02/2020 19:18

Mine started on 30 November . Took 10-15 days to start to feel better didn't even wash for 5 days
Then got a chest infection which was given steroids and antibiotics for . Then got a cough , then an ear infection which needed antibiotic spray. Last week the same in other ear, and now have a cold ! It's shit being ill for so long.

I knew there’d be one MsAdoraBelle. It’s actually a fallacy that everyone who has a flu virus is bedridden for days. Some people don’t even notice they have it. A cold is normally determined by a runny blocked nose and mild fever which I don’t have. I have had a temp of 102/3f every day before I get it down with medication, and horrendous chills with muscles aches and exhaustion, and I have been spending much of the day in bed (highly usual) then struggling down to camp on the sofa later on.

So ner Hmm.

Ok. Bet you don’t feel as bad as I did though. I wish I’d had your flu rather than mine. Hmm

zara020 · 11/02/2020 19:57

Poor you. I had very similar last winter and my god, I've never felt so unwell. I soldier on through colds , they're a pain but nothing compared to the fortnight of the horrendous flu. I couldn't work, parent or be a normal human adult for what felt like months.

My sympathies, I wish you a speedy recovery.

(Ps. Folk who think this sounds like a cold... have only ever had a cold)

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 11/02/2020 20:14

Or no flu at all, obviously, that sounded really snotty, sorry Grin

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 11/02/2020 20:21

Don't suppose you've been to Brighton/Singapore/France/China/Thailand lately OP?! Grin

Maybe worth double checking with doc, I'm sure it is flu but we thought my husband had the flu but he actually had bacterial pneumonia and required iv antibiotics and 5 nights in hospital to get rid of it. He couldn't stand from lethargy, v hot and cold, terrible cough causing vomiting and unable to keep down food, dehydrated as struggling to keep down water with cough which unfortunately caused an acute kidney injury which again required hospitalization. He also had poor memory and wasnr really present during conversations. Completely out of the blue, no prior respiratory history.
