Im normally an Asda, M&S and Iceland shopper. I’m fed up of going to 3 different supermarkets a week for groceries (I like different things in each of the above stores) so over the last 2 weeks I ve tried Waitrose online delivery.

Both times the food has not been as good as M&S and Asda. I ve had black potatoes, eggs that have a black tinge to them when cooked and bland strawberries.

Some of the range I bought was duchy (sp) and it’s no different to Asda.

I don’t understand why Waitrose has this upmarket reputation.

I’m starting to think it’s all fur coat and no knickers..

@youngestisapsycho

All San Pellegrino drinks are shit now they have sweetener in them!
So true. Another example of the masses not being able to control themselves leading to people not being able to have nice things any more.

I don’t go to Waitrose anymore as it’s not my local. They used to do the best jam roly poly I have ever had though. Overall I don’t think you can beat M&S it’s the absolute best all their food is nice.

Its really nice....until you go to Booths and then Waitrose looks a bit cut price.

The fruit and veg from Waitrose is utter crap - I've had to throw so much out straight out of the bag.

The vast majority of their other branded stuff is great.

I have a m and s foodhall near me and it's always full and most of the food runs out by about two pm! Waitrose is a longer drive so I don't tend to go there very often but if I do I tend to buy the big crusty baguettes they do as a treat and I like their salad bars and desserts. Both shops are just for treat food mostly and not used by me in a regular basis as it's just too pricy but the food is so much better than tesco or Asda which is where I usually go.
I think of them as ' posh shops' and have never been in a booths as they don't have any stores in essex ( as far as I know)
The co op is nice , but our one is now a Nica which isn't the same.

I've always found the fruit and veg to be fine from Waitrose. Years ago someone told me that their veg tends to have the best 'shelf life' after you buy it based on their supply turn around. But that might not be true any more.

If eggs have a black tinge when cooked, it's to do with the cooking technique.

I used to live 5 minutes from a Waitrose so it was my default supermarket for years. I didn't and don't love it at all - the food is overpriced and nothing special, and over the years I had black potatoes, squashy tomatoes, stale bread and memorably a bag of 'washed and ready to eat' salad which was full of bird feathers. The free coffee as you shopped was nice though.

I do like M&S, which is now my nearest supermarket on foot, and I think there actually is a discernible difference in quality (as well as price!). However I'll also shop happily at Lidl, Aldi, Asda or Tesco if I can be bothered to get in the car.

I love Waitrose but I don't buy everything there. I buy meat and fish there because they are strict about suppliers and food chains. I tend to buy some organic Duchy veg. Some of their Essential stuff is quite well priced - i'm really sad, I remember prices Blush. I do buy quite a bit on offer, as the budget is not unlimited, I just place a high value on good food.

But I go to Lidl for some canned goods, some frozen fruit and veg and some fresh. If its something that is basic like sugar and there is no difference in quality, I'm not paying more for it. Today Lidl had grapefruit for 35p vs Waitrose at 60p. So I tend to shop for the best value...

I never shop at Waitrose, most of it is just too pricey for my budget. However, I did a lot of fruit picking on farms as a teen and the plumpest, juiciest fruit always went in the Waitrose and M & S pile, and the less delicious and well grown went on the other pile. Prob not much difference all in all, and this was the 90s, but they pay more for their fresh produce.
