To ask for your help in writing my statement to be a parent governor?

Post for traffic! Smile

There are two openings at my step daughters school (junior) for parent governors. I'd like to apply now that my job roles allows me more free time.

I have received the application this morning and I have to write a statement in support of my application. I presume this will be sent out to parents for the ballot.

When you are reading these statements, what as a parent do you look for? I don't want to waste my time writing a load of drivel if there are specific things that people will look for?

Many thanks in advance!

I guess I’d include any relevant professional or work related background that would help me in the role. And state how much you value the school and wish to support the children and teachers.

Agree you should avoid waffle but not so brief it has no soul at all.

It's just a cover letter. Keep it relatively short and talk about why your specific experience and expertise is relevant to being a governor and why you think being a governor is important.

There's always one douchey, pretentious one, one who tries to be all down with the kids, one who hasn't bothered to submit anything and one who hasn't understood that it's going to be published for the whole school to see and clearly thought they were just writing an email back to the school secretary. It's funny but just don't be the one people cringe at!

The douchey pretentious one usually gets the most votes.

I would stick to making it about what your professorial/school experience is and what you could bring to the governing body (think transferable skills), what areas of the curriculum you're most interested in and saying how long you've been in the area, how many DC/ages and what schools they go to, esp if they went to the school in question.
