To ask if you wore Bandannas?

Name changed for this one. (Not a journo!)

Was discussing the thread about 2000s nostalgia with two old friends and one of them remembered she used to go around town in a bandanna quite often, tied in the old school way.

Did anyone do this back in the day?

YABU - Never
YANBU - Yes (at least once)

It was a fashion staple in the 90s.
Worn with long straight hair, black flicky eyeliner and berry lipstick.
Ripped jeans/white vest under a checked shirt.
Thought I was the business.

MillennialGirl · 09/02/2020 20:02

DrWAnker, that sounds cool.

My friend used to wear a light blue one with the point of the triangle hanging loose.

Yep I admit that I was a 90s fashion victim Blush

I was a young mum in the 90s and often used to wear one to keep my long straight hair out of the way of dc s sticky little fingers

dudsville · 09/02/2020 20:20

I wore mine like an Alice band.

SpinneyHill · 09/02/2020 20:22

Err yeah. Until about 98 when it was uncool to be baggy and bandanna'd unless you knew pantera

MillennialGirl · 09/02/2020 20:24

That's interesting SpinneyHill. I always thought they began with Hannah from S Club 7 and/or All Saints.

Maybe they had two spells of being in fashion.

I wore mine around my neck in 1988 just like Bros

Getoffmylilo · 09/02/2020 20:27

It was an 80s thing too - tied on like a hair band (see Madonna for reference).

LaMarschallin · 09/02/2020 20:28

dudsville

More of a bandalice than a bandanna then?

MillennialGirl · 09/02/2020 20:29

Have to admit, that's not quite what my friend was thinking of, but my question was rather open ended Smile

Red bandana, 501s, white t shirt and DMs or palladiums and bright red lips and a night at wag club
Good times Smile

Pinkyrosie · 09/02/2020 20:31

That was circa 87

MillennialGirl · 09/02/2020 20:32

Pinkyrosie, I am guessing 501s were back in the 80s?

Beat me to it. Blush

@Pinkyrosie were you a Brosette too ?!!

This was me! I remember wearing this in 94-96. I used to have 2 stray strands of hair, coming down the side of my face. Grin

I wish it would come back I really suited this look.

Pinkyrosie · 09/02/2020 20:39

Nooooooo!!!!! Me and my mates thought they were naff - they copied the rare groove club look.
However, I watched the recent documentary and now love them!

YouOnlyLiveTwice · 09/02/2020 20:41

They ARE back!

ShinyMe · 09/02/2020 20:43

I wear one now sometimes, if my hair is a bit sweaty and I'm out gardening or walking and I want to hide my hairline.

MillennialGirl · 09/02/2020 20:45

Have to admit I should have made this more specific. Although it's an interesting thread none the less. They were only seen now and again in my home area in the early 2000s and I wondered if they were more common elsewhere.

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 09/02/2020 20:49

Yes - in the early nineties but with the knot tied over the back triangle bit (so it didn't look like a Laura Ashley-esque head scarf).

MillennialGirl · 09/02/2020 20:58

That's more the style I remember / my friend wore.

Littlepond · 09/02/2020 20:59

I still do!
