To stay in all day to avoid the storm?

It seems like a waste of a day but I don't like the sound of these winds and am worried about trees coming down.

We have a 1 year old who only ever naps when taken out in the pram (I've never succeeded in getting him to sleep by jiggling the pram back and forth - he has to be taken around the block at least). Any ideas/tips on getting him to sleep without going out greatly appreciated!

@Hassled you forgot to add "making memories"

Yeah, do it. I remember cleaning my cupboards out once.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 09/02/2020 08:18

DD (14) and I will be staying in our pyjamas in front of Netflix today - I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday! Luckily I did all the housework, shopping and other little jobs yesterday so today is all about relaxing.

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/02/2020 08:30

Planning on staying in all day and watching the Tv / films
DH has some sort of funny virus making him feel lightheaded , so a sofa day for him is probably a good idea
We’re in west Wales , and I’ve already been outside in my dressing gown and slippers and collected the ( luckily empty ) food waste bin , which was making its way down the drive !
Very wet and very windy , it’s been bad all through the night

@Layoverlife 🚑 thank you Flowers for you and all essential workers out today!

Strugglingtodomybest · 09/02/2020 08:46

I'm planning a dog walk, if they'll go out, fingers crossed they won't! And then I'm going to take the teens to the cinema if they want, they're still in bed. Later, I'm out again for rehearsals. Normal day here.

idontlike789 · 09/02/2020 08:50

I usually run on a Sunday but not today it'll be nice to have a day indoors sometimes.

NoRegrets123 · 09/02/2020 08:54

DS slept in till nearly 8 this morning which is good as he's got lots of sleep if we do struggle to get him down for his nap. Normally I'd at least take him around the block (that normally works the trick) and stick our Rockit on the pram, but I think I'll just try putting him in the cot and see what happens as he is getting loads better at self-settling at night, and if that doesn't work then I'll rock him whilst wearing him in a carrier or push the pram back and forth or put the Rockit on (it's brilliant at sustaining his sleep but I've never been able to use it to get him to sleep but now is the time to experiment I guess).

I actually thought we were in a yellow warning area and thought it was only amber up north and in Scotland, but have realised it's actually amber for the wind here down South. I thought the winds sounded way too strong for yellow. Local paper is saying 60-70mph in some parts of our city.

@Layoverlife you are a hero!!

I opened the door to let the dog out for a wee this morning, she took one look and scooted back to bed so doubt very much we will be walking today. We went yesterday evening and she could obviously sense something brewing as it was a brisk walk in a rush to get back rather than the leisurely sniff we generally have. I will be doing very little today and loving it.

Deelish75 · 09/02/2020 09:23

We're on amber alert here, so we're staying home today. DD (5) wasn't too well last night so she'll be happy lounging on sofa watching tv. We're on "tree watch", my neighbour has a tree which is an evergreen and its at a 45 degree angle so we're wandering if it's going to go over - which won't be good as its a built up area, its in line to hit some garages and potentially a couple of gardens (opposite direction to ours)

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 09/02/2020 09:24

We are having a pj day. Peter rabbit is on Netflix and we are baking bread, and cookies, and having a sort out of various things and probably playing some games. A day in is often productive rather than wasted.

RainbowAlicorn · 09/02/2020 09:48

We dont usually go out on a Sunday anyway, my DH works weekends, so we spend the day playing and baking.

Isleepinahedgefund · 09/02/2020 10:18

We have an amber alert - we planned our weekend so today would be a lazy duvet day, and did loads yesterday.

I don't understand why anyone would think you're unreasonable about deciding to stay in during dangerous weather conditions? A child (and pram) could easily get blown away by 60-80mph winds. I've been literally blown off my feet before by strong winds before.

It won't be the end of the world if he doesn't nap.

WiltedDaffs · 09/02/2020 10:25

We’re staying in, got an amber alert here. A neighbour has a 6ft high wall around their garden and it’s fallen down; I don’t want to go out in anything that can knock down a brick wall!

AutumnRose1 · 09/02/2020 10:27

I should have gone out!

It's terrifying on a high floor!

I might have to hide in the loo (the only room with no windows).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/02/2020 10:29

Amber alert here. I'm out at the moment with DS abut will be going home shortly.

Aragog · 09/02/2020 10:32

We've no plans today anyway so intend to stay in the house all day. Its quite horrid out, very very windy and a lot of rain. I don't need to go out and I certainly have no inclination to go and get wet and blown about. It's an amber alert here. If it was a week day, when I have work,, then yes - Id head out. But I have no reason to today.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 09/02/2020 10:34

Bugger that. Dog has been up the garden and came back in sharpish - quickest poo in history.

If it clears up we'll go for a wander this afternoon

U2HasTheEdge · 09/02/2020 10:36

I am staying in. I will work on my presentation and essay for uni.

I made my son get a taxi to work as I didn't want him cycling at 5.30 in the morning. I'll pick him up if his friend doesn't bring him back.

NemophilistRebel · 09/02/2020 10:43

DH went out this morning to do a favour for a family member and said he’s not concerned as it’s just a bit windy

Has now sent me photos of multiple trees down and road blockages making his normal 10 minute journey about triple that just to get down the road

Smurf123 · 09/02/2020 10:54

I'm going to baby swim class soon but it's only yellow here and while windy has eased overnight.
Someone outside mind you is drilling - I wouldn't be doing that

Smurf123 · 09/02/2020 10:56

Power hose not drill

MrsCasares · 09/02/2020 11:01

I’ve just walked the dog. Big waterproof (ha ha) jacket, wellies the lot. Dog had his waterproof coat on. I was soaked to the skin. It’s a lazy wind today, goes right through you.

Stay in and keep dry/warm.

longestlurkerever · 09/02/2020 11:01

I used to clear a space and run the pram the length of my living room and back. Took a while but worked and she'd stay asleep once off and I could stop pushing. Or just use it as a prompt to try again with settling her in the cot if that's something you want to do - once mine would do that they'd nap for 90 mins every day. Bliss!

DDiva · 09/02/2020 11:02

Amber warning here. Was considering taking dd swimming but it's really ramped up in the last couple of hours so we'll have a quiet one at home instead.

MinesaPinot · 09/02/2020 11:09

We're on Amber alert here. I've got the lurgy so we're staying put with catch up telly. Dh got food shopping yesterday whilst I dragged myself up the hairdressers so we are stocked up.
