To stay in all day to avoid the storm?

It seems like a waste of a day but I don't like the sound of these winds and am worried about trees coming down.

We have a 1 year old who only ever naps when taken out in the pram (I've never succeeded in getting him to sleep by jiggling the pram back and forth - he has to be taken around the block at least). Any ideas/tips on getting him to sleep without going out greatly appreciated!

It still seems like the middle of the night to me but I can hear the wind outside. I wasn't planning on going anywhere today anyway and it's a very long time since I had a baby.

It is still very dark outside - hopefully you and your baby are asleep. I'd keep the place dark as long as possible, like night time, and cuddle up in bed. Hopefully you'll all have a lie in today. I certainly intend to go back to sleep but I can please myself, there's only me and one cat at home now.

Amber warning here but we will still be going out as kids have choir this morning and panto rehearsal this afternoon, might skip our usual storm watch on the seafront though and possibly take the longer and less tree-y route through the church yard this morning Grin
However, if I was in your shoes with a young baby then I wouldn't, only takes one strong gust of wind into the side of the pram...

I've got to drive 30 miles collect my DS from his father (we meet half way between us) then take him to a competition this afternoon. Can't wait!!

BillywilliamV · 09/02/2020 07:03

Knitting and Netflix for me today..

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 09/02/2020 07:03

Today is the day I will finally have no excuses to paint the bathroom.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 09/02/2020 07:04

... actually, just remembered I need more paint. Hmm

dottiedodah · 09/02/2020 07:11

I would not risk it no .Some severe storms last year resulted on a tree falling within a hairs breadth of a friend and her DH! Maybe a warm bath for babe and some massage ? This will relax baby and then some soothing music and soft lighting ,curtains closed ?

joystir59 · 09/02/2020 07:20

I will walk the dog as have to, but also I do want to go and look at the waves (Live on exposed headland, NE coast). I expect they have closed the shore roads though so will look down from on high

Mikethenight2good · 09/02/2020 07:27

We have a show in London booked..and it doesn't look like they are cancelling it. So off to London's we go.
Otherwise I wouldn't be leaving the house.

Redcherries · 09/02/2020 07:30

You lot are worrying me. I’m flying into Heathrow at 2. Feels like we’re the only flight not cancelled.

vhs95 · 09/02/2020 07:32

I wouldn't take a baby out in it unless essential. My sister has had slates blown off her roof in the night - how much damage could one of those do!

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 09/02/2020 07:34

I'm not planning on going out really, we don't need to go anywhere and my car gets buffeted about in minor winds, let alone this storm.
We might have a short walk to the park and back later if we get a bit of cabin fever (our house is very tiny!) but there's no trees on the way and only hedges round the edge of the park. It's just the debris I worry about.
Do you have a garden OP? I used to rock DS in the buggy out there and then wheel it back in once he was asleep if we needed to stay home.

Selfsettling3 · 09/02/2020 07:37

‘Only’ yellow warning and windows of 50mph today. We haven’t had a family day out for ages and we are not sure if each should go out today (3 yr old and a baby).

Pheasantplucker2 · 09/02/2020 07:39

I'm worried because DH is taking the kids to arsenal ladies football match this afternoon. I've just checked and they haven't cancelled it. It's really windy where we are and I'm not really very happy about them driving in this. Despite it being my first afternoon to myself in ages, I actually hope they cancel it, as I'll be worrying about the journey. Plus it's scheduled for heavy rain when they'll be going in, so pretty miserable.

Hassled · 09/02/2020 07:40

I will be sorting out the kitchen cupboards. Living my best life and all that.

PhilCornwall1 · 09/02/2020 07:42

@Hassled you forgot to add "making memories" Confused

Castleonacloud · 09/02/2020 07:48

It's been 50mph winds all night here. I've got 2 kids that are already going stir crazy, but I'm not chancing taking them out. I don't want to drive/walk in it. It's a pj day for them, clearing out and making chicken pie for dinner for me.

PumpkinPie2016 · 09/02/2020 07:51

Taking DS to a party at 10am Sad

He also wants to go to messy church later but not sure - will see how it goes.

DartmoorDoughnut · 09/02/2020 07:52

We’ve dived into the recycling craft supplies and lit the fire having been up for two hours already, dogs have rushed out for a wee and are fast asleep in their beds so we’re staying put!

Home42 · 09/02/2020 07:56

Will get up and walk the dog in a bit. We like a home day and went out and about yesterday so will stay in and do some craft, toys, laundry and baking today.

Layoverlife · 09/02/2020 08:03

I'm about to leave for work and dreading it, it sounds wild out there 😐 I dread driving an ambulance in this weather as they aren't particularly great to drive at the best of times with all the equipment on them, especially driving them on lights and sirens. I hope there isn't much motorway driving to do and not any Road Traffic Collisions to go to today 🙏🏻

If I was home it definitely would have been a pj, film and duvet day and I think I would have made lasagna 🤔

Teateaandmoretea · 09/02/2020 08:05

I don't see staying in on a Sunday as a wasted day at all. It's bliss 😂.

Toffeecakes · 09/02/2020 08:06

We’re driving about an hour away to meet friends, we’ve had this organised for around 6 months and we’ve not all been together for at least 6 years and so we’re really trying not to cancel. Our 7 children are meeting for the first time and I have a sneaky suspicion one of the other couples has some good news after about 5 years of trying. I really don’t want to cancel! However, I have avoided taking the dog out this morning - he’ll be going to play at his friend’s house this afternoon so will burn off some of his energy then.

chugmonkey · 09/02/2020 08:07

Winds in my part of Kent are only showing as 28mph for today. We live in a rural area with plenty of trees so it's pretty noisy but nothing terrible. There may be a few tree branches down here and there. Common sense and careful driving should suffice here.

HeronLanyon · 09/02/2020 08:13

was planning to go it on various errands. Then thought I might wear soft thick hat. Now thinking I may stay in. Wind is picking up quite a bit. London here.
Hope all are ok.
Good idea not to venture out op and good luck with D.C.
