To feel sad for DS

DS is 16 and has rapidly greying hair. It started about a year ago when it was just a few hairs but now it’s all over and coming in thicker.
He is so self conscious about it, and his confidence has dropped a lot. I know he’s been getting some nasty comments from people in his year at school. He laughs it off but I know hes gutted.
It just breaks my heart to see him so down. Hes a handsome, talented boy but this is just sad for him.

DH says he was going grey at the same age, so probably genetics. Dh said he dyed it for years!!
I suggested to dye it, but he’s refusing as he’d be mortified if mates found out!
WWYD?

I would dye it but not a home job, but I’m the mean time in between my grey touch ups o use bastiste tinted dry shampoo to help cove t the roots, might help him to see what I could look like

If he’s good looking and talented, as you say, then he’s well placed to make it his thing. Grey is often strikingly attractive next to a youthful face and it beats the hell out of over-dyed hair and/or roots.

My Grandpa was virtually fully bald by the time he was 21, much less easy to cover up!
Didn't lads use to use Grecian 2000 to make their hair darker? Is not unusual,, but gradual tinting sounds like a great idea.

MiniGuinness · 09/02/2020 01:41

What colour is his hair? I agree with blond highlights to which then just makes the grey ash blond. It’s harder if he is really dark though.

MiniGuinness · 09/02/2020 01:41

Not sure what that sentence says! But you get the gist! 😂

Bezalelle · 09/02/2020 04:42

Shave it all off!

TheGirlWithAPrince · 09/02/2020 04:59

Highlights would work, a mixture of all different blonde tones ranging from Ash to platinum

MangoFeverDream · 09/02/2020 05:09

Second the purple shampoo recommendation. It won’t take the greys out but will balance things nicely (plus some youtubers are known to use it to dye their hair a violet-silver shade ...)

My brother has this - grey completely in early twenties. But lush thick hair that to this day (late forties) has not receded a bit. Our uncle had it too so assume it’s genetic.

Thank you

Mini - His hair is very dark- almost black in colour when it’s short, so it’s very noticeable

DH already uses the silver shampoo stuff.

Will take Ds to the good —expensive— barbers next time. Grin
