To think there is no point obsessing about the corona virus?

My dd's father keeps sending me links about how the Corona virus is going to kill us all and people are going to bring it back from China etc. It's driving me mad - he won't stop going on about it. He thinks it's linked to HIV or something.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't travel to China right now but I don't see the point of reading about it 24 hours a day...

Perhaps this is because he’s read that some HIV meds are being used on those infected with Coronavirus as it might help reduce the symptoms?

For a start Coronavirus is air borne. (hence why people in areas of high risk of Coronavirus are wearing masks). HIV is blood borne. Many (all?) viruses latch onto cells in the body and use them to make copies of itself. Drugs like HIV meds prevent this happening. These meds have also been used in trials against other autoimmune illnesses like MS - doesn’t mean MS has anything to do with HIV.

He’s obviously not looking at reliable info or reading something into it that doesn’t exist so perhaps just disregard any links he sends.

It's just doing my head in and he won't listen to common sense. He's talking about buying masks

Here’s something else where some thought it was an engingered virus using HIV www.forbes.com/sites/victoriaforster/2020/02/02/no-coronavirus-was-not-bioengineered-to-put-pieces-of-hiv-in-it/#166c56f356cb

If he wants to buy masks let him - if he can find any, I think most places are sold out. If he’s really serious face covering is also needed while he’s at it!

It does all require a common sense approach and understanding the risks. If he really wants to educate himself, give him this link, which if from the world a Health Organisation - so regardless of where you live. www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public
There are also sections on masks and myths

Hi, I have a neighbour who keeps doing this - she runs round with her kindle with news articles on it - I just have a quick look and then I say "but have you seen this" and redirect her to better articles . She has started to calm down a bit. We live in Liverpool so the poor people who were evacuated to the Wirral did scare her but after some careful explaining she now wants to send a box of goodies. So I guess I've redirected her worries. Maybe you could get him to do the same? Good luck! xx

Good idea @Jessi1972
