People who call themselves emetaphobes - are they for real?

I hadnt even heard of this until a thread i started which mentioned the word puke produced an effect on some that they coudnt even come on to mn until that thread had died. They couldnt even bare to read a word?!

Another thread running now, is talking about how some are affected by this phobia. Some of them i can see it is a real big problem and for them i do have sympathy. But some, who like me, do not like to see others being sick but are classing themselves as emetaphobic - this im finding difficult to comprehend. I dont like it at all - i avoid being too close to someone (eg kissing dh or dc if they have been ill in the last few days) for fear of exposing myself to a possible bug. But im not emetaphobic - please tell me im not.

Just looked at your profile 3andnomore. Great name, Flynn. I have a Finbar (sometimes shortened to Fin) but Flynn has even more style. Love it.

annoyingdevil · 05/09/2007 21:22

form of bullying, don't you think (mocking grammar)

3andnomore · 05/09/2007 21:26

Dumbledor...well, we obviously liked the name...and if I am honest, out of my 3 boys it's my most favourite name...not that I changed my mind about my other 2 sons names....!
Must say though, that the reason we thought of the name is quite shameful, I suppose...because I am a bit of a Home & Away fan, and there was a character in it, that was called Flynn (character is dead now, but well...name was great, and I had not really heard of it before H&A)!

DumbledoresGirl · 05/09/2007 21:28

Don't worry about where you got the name from. I was thinking of Errol Flynn!

Just logged on to read up, thanks you lot, im so glad its not just me that has noticed and taken some offence to some of the mocking. I was beginning to feel like it was all my own doing and i had brought it on myself. I know im right to have an opinion and i know i write about contraversial topics but i dont feel i deserve some of the harsher comments.

BecauseImWorthIt
I really appreciate the apology. I also apologise if what i said came accross as insensitive. I was wound up along the a way to discovering more about emetophobia, i got cross and bad tempered. Perhaps too, im not as well practised in writing my posts as some of the others here, so that the right feelings and tones can be heard.

Ive not been here long (MN user) and ive been involved in some quite heavy debates with me in the centre. It was begining to feel like an initiation test.

Im really glad, really glad youve shown a little support and reassurance.
Anyway, id better not go on about me too long or there could be more trouble.

Haychee, it's a learning curb, this....
I had, especially on one forum major problems in the past, and often not even about things that were my oopinion, but because I dared to supply the research on certian topics, and was mocked badly, and in the end I decided to depart, as it really did upset me. I was not entirely guiltfree, of course....but anyhow, a fair while back, I got some apologies of some people about the issue and the treatment I received, and that really meant something to me.
I know often people only see cyberworld as such, forgetting there are actually real life people behind the names...
I also know, that when you wound up, well, you don't think clear, you will get defensive and will bite...well, I know I do that, iykwim
