Im current pregnant with my first, 16 weeks and have been looking for posts for advice etc etc. I guess many on here have young children, how do you get enough time whilst looking after young DC to post on here.

OP posts:

I mean, how do you find time to do anything really?!

londonrach · 07/02/2020 07:39

Less time now with a three year old but had time until she was two. Loads of time when she a baby. However now i look in the evening when shes asleep. But every child isdifferent.

Alb1 · 07/02/2020 07:41

Seems a little daft coming onto a parenting forum and asking how parents have time to post on it. The same way they have time to do anything I guess. Small children sometimes nap for one thing...

GrannyBags · 07/02/2020 07:41

Having a quick scroll on here doesn’t have to take long. Maybe whilst DC are sleeping, feeding, at nursery, with husband or family. It’s a long time since I had very young DC but I don’t remember it taking up my every waking moment.

Being a new mum is a job-and-a-half all by itself, no doubt about it and I don't know the answer. However, what MN is useful for is instant - usually very good - advice if you have a worry as a first time mum and need some reassurance that you are dealing with something right. I guess you just have to treat it as a real-time resource.

Congratulations on your news, by the way, and hope everything goes well.

LolaLollypop · 07/02/2020 07:43

My daughter was napping 3hrs a day before she turned 1. She's 2.5 now, in nursery 3 days a week and naps for 2hrs on the days I have her. We also have some downtime when she's watching tv etc. Also when my DH gets back from work is a time when I go into the kitchen and have an hour to cook/chill/check social media etc.
So yes, there's still time to do other stuff even with young children!

Small baby he had 2 naps a day plus in the periods when he was feeding 45 min on 15 min off and I was going crazy, it was a lot less difficult than getting to see the health visitor

Nishky · 07/02/2020 07:45

That’s a little judgmental
What is that saying
‘When I had no children I had lots of theories about raising children
Now I have three children and no theories’

Badly paraphrasing there

mynameiscalypso · 07/02/2020 07:46

Well so far this morning DS has either been feeding, sleeping or fascinated by his hands. All of which allow me to MN at the same time.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/02/2020 07:46

They sleep a lot when they are babies. The toddler stage is where it gets more difficult but they can entertain themselves occasionally. And people post when their children are asleep.

I shut mine in the cupboard

Camomila · 07/02/2020 07:51

DS1 is nearly 4 and eating cornflakes infront of Paw Patrol
DS2 is almost 2 weeks and asleep

Later DS1 will be at nursery and DS2 will spend 3/4 of the day asleep (with breaks for food, nappies, and blinking while opening and closing his mouth)

THAT90sBITCH · 07/02/2020 07:53

I am atm sat with my morning Brew

I have just changed the baby and hes playing with his feet on his mat. I will feed him soon. The other 4 have had breakfast, 12 and 10 year old are getting dressed upstairs, 6 year old is getting dressed downstairs, and i already dressed the 3 year old. I still need to dress myself, supervise teeth brushing, make two waterbottles up, do dds hair and make sure everyone is out on time (8.10 for dc1 and 8.40 for everyone else)

20viona · 07/02/2020 07:56

Because for the first 3 months babies sleep 20 hours a day and then you simply scroll during naps, feeds etc. Not hard.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 07/02/2020 07:57

Well I used to chuck them outside in the cold and bark "Don't come back till teatime!" at them /s

Ds1 liked playing by himself a lot. Still does. Ds2 was always glued to me as a tiny one and would often sleep on me. When you're trapped on the sofa under a heavy baby then you've got lots of time to scroll through Mumsnet.

Crispyturtle · 07/02/2020 08:00

Breastfeeding leaves one hand free for typing. They fall asleep in the car & you mumsnet in the peace & quiet. Sometimes I ignore my kids for a bit and ‘read the news’. It doesn’t exactly take long to post a comment.

RalphWiggumsWedgie · 07/02/2020 08:03

I find it best to leave the kids to go feral to be honest. They can bring themselves up. What you need is a large G & T, 20 Rothmans and a reliable internet connection.

Purplelion · 07/02/2020 08:05

I have 3 kids.
The teenager is currently getting ready for school.
The 2 year old is doing a puzzle.
The 5 month old is on her playmat.
I’m drinking tea before taking the oldest 2 to school/Child minder. Just me and the baby home today so I’ll scroll through MN whilst she sleeps or is happy playing.

crispysausagerolls · 07/02/2020 08:07

Really like the PP who suggested the cupboard - @sargass0 ? - at the moment DS is tethered in the garden and I just don’t have the security in my tethering ability to know he won’t escape and bother me whilst I’m on MN. So cupboard sounds like an excellent suggestion for tomorrow, thanks.

GimmeTheSnacks · 07/02/2020 08:08

Remember when we become parents we are still people in our own right. I've seen people go down the path of just being mum and nothing else and it's affected their lives, confidence, relationships with partners etc.

Mumsnet is easy to do when the kids nap or for me when I'm breastfeeding or having a break at work.

Harakeke · 07/02/2020 08:08

I hired a nanny purely so I can MN.

YappityYapYap · 07/02/2020 08:09

Well you don't stop having number 2's when you have a baby so that is a great time to comment!

PumpkinP · 07/02/2020 08:09

Baby sleeps/ breastfeeds, older ones at school. It’s not that hard to figure it out, come on!
