I came home today and could hear a chain saw out the back, somebody was cutting down two large trees on public land, I went to speak to them , it was a tree surgeon who'd been paid to cut them down because it was making his customer's garden too dark.

They shouldn't be doing that! They can't just cut down trees because they feel like it! Their garden faces west so gets sunlight in the afternoon and evening, at this time of year it's not a bare tree that blocks the lower sun, it's the houses opposite on the other side of the small lane (cycle path) that separates the gardens - our garden faces east and the cycle path is in between our two gardens.

Did you stop him? Surely he knows that's not legal?

ThisIsBigMoon · 06/02/2020 17:36

If it is public land surely someone has oversight/control? Check with the council. Obviously it is too late to rescue the trees, but they may be fined. I say this with a small amount of experience - my daft DF and his neighbour took it upon themselves to do similar decades ago and got into hot water with the council!

I went and spoke to him, he wouldn't stop so I phoned the council who said they'd look it within 28 days.
