AIBU to go to the EPU now for this?

Had a bit of pinky discharge a couple of times today after bowel movements. It seems to stop after a couple of minutes and only after I've had a poo.

I've had multiple miscarriages before though and I am scared to death of seeing any kind of pink/red/brown.

I'm thinking of going to the EPU and asking them to scan me/do bloods to check everything is still okay.

Am I being ridiculous? I'd have to leave work in order to go.

You should call your local midwife centre and ask their advice. I had a few similar instances early in my pregnancy (although no history of miscarriage). I called my local midwives department and asked their advice.

They effectively told me it was up to me and that it wasnt a problem if I did decide to go in. They did reassure me that I wasnt wasting their time though which made me feel a lot better.

I kept an eye on it and went straight after work but YANBU if you wanted to leave work and go sooner.

Good luck, I hope everything is ok and it all settles down.

Hi,

Can I do that even I don't have a midwife? I'm being seen by the RM clinic at the hospital so I don't have a midwife, I'm just treated/scanned etc... By the hospital.

Can you just drop in? Mine you have to contact by phone first and they’ll chat to you and see if they need to arrange a scan. But yes I’d definitely go, I had multiple miscarriages and they no issue with scanning me due to cramps because of my history. I hope everything’s ok Flowers

I would phone the epu, how many weeks are you?

OhGinger · 06/02/2020 13:41

6 weeks 5 days. I had a scan on Monday this week which showed healthy pregnancy and heartbeat. I did have very very slight bleeding before the scan after sex which turned out to be nothing.

I am also using progesterone pessaries which I am taking vaginally so I don't know when it's just a bit of irritation from all these different things.

It stops as soon as I've finishing my BM. I've just been for a wee now and nothing. In my previous miscarriages it's started and progressed to proper bleeding.

I just want to know though because I'm such an anxious wreck at the moment!

And yes you can just turn up at the EPU at the hospital. I've done it when going through my previous miscarriages. They usually take HCG levels for 48hours, I'd prefer a scan though but not sure I can just ask for one.

I wouldn't mind calling up just for advice but I'm not sure whether they'll do that or whether they'll say I should come in because they can't tell me anything until they've checked me over iyswim.

Ah - it sounds like your pregnancy is being handled differently to mine. My EPU is similar to a PP, I had to call ahead or be referred by the local midwives unit.

It could well be that you have something benign like a cervical ectropion - especially with you saying it's just after a BM and once after sex. If you'd be comfortable with it I'd be tempted to ask the person checking you over if they'd recommend a speculum exam.

Definitely go to the EPU if you feel you need to.

D4rwin · 06/02/2020 13:51

Our EPU is one you can't turn up at, that sounds useful. But if that option is there you could. I know that constant dread is exhausting and will stick with youSad.
I've also had every symptom with different outcomes, so my fingers are crossed and hopes are with you. Best wishes Brew

Thanks. I've just phoned them and described what's happening. They have said that they don't think I need to come in so long as it's now stopped (which it has) but if I do feel worried I can come by.

I think I'll just see how it goes for the rest of the day for now.
