Bed bugs- full refund?

quietlyspoken08 · 06/02/2020 12:29

My partner has gone anyway to work and along with his colleague has been bitten all over his body by bed bugs!

Is it unreasonable to ask for a full refund for the week he has been there? Also will the bed bugs travel back home with him. We have just moved into our gorgeous new home and I am petrified of him bringing them back.

Yes and yes

PatellarTendonitis · 06/02/2020 12:47

Yes, they should get a full refund.

CakeandCustard28 · 06/02/2020 12:47

Yes they can travel back with him. When he gets home wrap everything up in tight bags and suffocate any protential bed bugs, check his clothing etc. But yes he should get a full refund on that, that’s just minging. Should be shut till they have pest control out.

Nifflernancy · 06/02/2020 12:50

Packing everything up in tight bags won’t suffocate them. Some bed bug treatment companies have massive freezers that are -40 or similar - that would kill them. They are extremely tough! I would buy airtight bags now, then when he gets home immediately put absolutely in those bags including clothes he’s wearing & find one of those companies.

Wash all his clothes at 60 to kill off the bedbugs when he gets back.

Don't bring the suitcase indoors until you've got some pest control advice

WaitrosesCheapestVodka · 06/02/2020 12:51

Is he sure it's bedbugs? Has he seen one? Get him to take pictures of evidence. Very reasonable to expect a refund.

Get him to strip naked on arriving home. All belongings go straight in the washing on a hot wash at 60 and tumble dry (if you can), that will kill anything there. If it's possible consider bining his luggage, or you vsn use an iron/steamer. Anything that can't be washed immediately seal in a bin bag preferably keep outside until it can be washed.

They're relatively common and killable with professionals but it's a PITA and not cheap. If you do the above you should be ok.

Thank you all so much.

Will take the advice regarding washing, air tight bags and stripping him down.

I can feel myself itching already and he isn't even home until tomorrow!

He hasn't seen a bed bug but is absolutely covered in bites after sleeping in shorts and t shirt along with his other colleague.

Hotel have moved him rooms but I've told him to pop back into the room for a 'forgotten' item and try to get some pics.

Like PP have said bed bugs could well be in his clothes, suitcase or any other bag, make 100% sure they don't get in your house its a nightmare toget rid of them.
