I always feel sorry for them carting crates of heavy stuff up the stairs to me and they're always so polite, but I've never tipped them. I wonder should I be?

I'm in England. Just in case that makes a difference...

When I worked for ASDA, the drivers weren't allowed to accept tips.

Saylwhat · 06/02/2020 12:25

They always seem in such a rush, that I would probably delay them looking around for my purse in any case. Maybe it's not done. At least I know that not everyone is tipping while I'm merrily not tipping them.

All of the Tesco drivers that we've had have been so good that I'd love to regularly tip but as they may get in trouble, only do it at Christmas and New Year.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 06/02/2020 12:29

I probably would at Christmas if I had the same person every time (or maybe just a couple of different ones).

maras2 · 06/02/2020 12:31

Not that I want them to get in trouble at Christmas/ New Year Blush but I think the company tend to turn a festive blind eye.

8by8 · 06/02/2020 12:31

I might at Christmas if it was the same person every week and I liked them, but I’m in London and it’s a different driver every time. They’re not allowed to accept tips anyway. I do offer them a glass of cold water on hot days, but that’s it.

Darkstar4855 · 06/02/2020 12:31

No, I don’t think they’re allowed to accept them and also I meet them at the door so they just put the boxes down on the doorstep for me to unpack, they’re not having to carry them up three flights of stairs to a flat or anything like that.

bengalcat · 06/02/2020 12:32

Nope . Always have a brief chat though and they enjoy petting the nosy hound .

MadisonAvenue · 06/02/2020 12:40

I’m not sure if they’re allowed to accept tips, but I’d consider either tipping or giving a gift at Christmas if we had the same driver each week but we can go for weeks without seeing the same driver twice.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 06/02/2020 12:43

No. I don't tip anyone though. We don't need to because they get paid at least the nmw for the job they do.
