Really worried I may give DH food poisoning!

Tonight, I cooked dh one of those chicken in breadcrumb steak things ,not a whole chicken breast but chopped/reformed meat(I know, that sounds disgusting but it was a quick meal tonight). The package said to cook it for 25 mins at 180. I always overcook stuff so had cooked it for probably 30-35 mins.
Dh is a bit of a pig and hogs into his food without looking, he had eaten about half when he noticed it didn’t looked cooked through. I had a look and it was the normal white colour you’d expect from cooked chicken (under the breadcrumbs) but quite pinky coloured throughout the middle. He didn’t eat the rest and isn’t particularly concerned but I can’t help but worry he’s going to come down with food poisoning as he’s eaten half of it. I can’t understand why it was a pinky colour as I’d cooked it a good 5-10 mins longer and all the other bits in the oven were hot and cooked though. Has anyone else done anything like this before?

Some reformed chicken looks a bit pinky no matter how long you cook it. As long as it was hot all the way through it will be fine.

atomicblonde30 · 05/02/2020 18:57

Sometimes the chicken Kiev/nugget type things can look a bit pinky purple or sometimes even grey 🤢 I wouldn’t worry too much in all honesty.

PawPawNoodle · 05/02/2020 18:57

Was the texture uncooked or just a slight pink tinge to otherwise cooked meat? The colour doesn't necessarily mean it isn't done.

MrsAgassi · 05/02/2020 18:58

Those type of products often have a pinkish tinge around them. I don’t eat them but my husband eats cheese & ham ones and it’s something I’ve noticed. It’s usually a ring of pink around where the filling is.

stouffer · 05/02/2020 19:21

The thing about reformed meat is that all sorts of shit goes into it. If you cooked it properly then chances are it’s bits of vein you could see.

BertieBotts · 05/02/2020 19:23

Even if it was undercooked its still not a guaranteed thing he'll get food poisoning, it will probably be fine.

RhodaCamel · 05/02/2020 19:26

Thanks everyone. Fingers crossed he’ll be ok.

Thigh meat is pink/purple. I imagine it's not all breast meat that goes into these things.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/02/2020 19:29

I've read about a million 'will DH get food poisoning' threads on here and nobody ever does. Ever. Not even the DH who ate a chicken that had been in a warm car for two days. Or the one who ate a fat ball. They're a different species. If you've managed to poison your one you must have done something truly awful Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/02/2020 19:29

They're like urban foxes basically.

Runkle · 05/02/2020 19:30

Is it the breaded chicken steaks from Aldi? I always panic they look pinky but they always do and we've been fine.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/02/2020 19:31

I once gave DH serious food poisoning. We were both horribly ill. I didn’t do it on purpose. He forgave me and we laugh about it now.

RoomR0613 · 05/02/2020 19:38

They are usually already pre-cooked.

There's no way after 35 minutes it wasn't cooked.

victorioussponges · 05/02/2020 19:43

If I know the type of product you mean I think they're effectively precooked and you're just heating it up? In which case any pink should be down to something else in the processing rather than it being underdone - especially after a good 30mins! I'm sure he'll be fine but it's kind of you to be concerned.

bridgetreilly · 05/02/2020 19:43

Honestly, even if it was undercooked (which it probably wasn't) the chances are that he still wouldn't get food poisoning. It would be more likely, but still not that likely. Don't worry about it.

ScarlettBlaize · 05/02/2020 19:48

Too late for tonight, but don't eat reformed chicken. Ever. I won't link to any video evidence for this as it would DEFINITELY make you throw up.

I am a massive carnivore and love meat, but that stuff isn't worthy of the name.

RhodaCamel · 06/02/2020 09:18

Thanks everyone. Well he went to work at 6am and haven’t heard from him so hopefully all ok!
Jesusinthecabbagevan I remember that one with the chicken in the warm car 🤢
Runkle it was from Lidl so same thing really!
Annelovesgilbert my bil gave my sister food poisoning once, they ate the same thing but weirdly he never got it, she’s never forgiven him 😆
Scarlettblaize I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole but dh insists I. getting this cheap crap from Lidl, I keep telling him it’s all the crap scraped up off the abattoir floor 😮
