To cut DS hair

Help... We can’t seem to get a good haircut round here for DS 8 so DH came home with a set of clippers the other day. He was in need of a haircut so I quickly looked over the video with the clippers and 10 minutes later we had a very smart looking young man. I used the 4 guard on the top and 2 at the sides. Looks ok, but maybe next time I’d use the 6 on the top and 4 at the sides as you can see the scalp a bit! DS is very happy with the cut anyway and the convenience of not having to go out and drive to barbers and wait. I doubt many parents cut their boys hair at the age of 8, so AIBU? Do you cut their hair? What haircut/ length do they get?

We used to cut DS hair when he was younger as he really hated the barbers (and is still cautious of them now)

Just for clarity, he is the only one in his friend group that doesn’t have the boy standard Short back and sides.

DS had a number 5 all over at home until he was 13!

I do DS's (age 5), he has a number 6 all over (but very very thick hair)!

I think it is probably pretty common to do it at home.
I have 3 sons, ds1 wears his hair long, ds2 has it very short at the sides and longer on too(either gelled or all fluffy and tufty) and ds3 has his longer. They all go to the hairdressers for theirs as I am rubbish at doing hair,

Have done my husbands pretty much since we moved in together. Also do my 14 year olds, he hates the idea of going somewhere to have it done. My youngest son goes to a hairdresser as he likes it long.

My DS is 19 and I still do his; 4 on top, 2 at sides 😃

I have done DH's hair for years.
No. 3 on back and sides. He hasn't really got anything on the top anymore, bless him!

Tbf have only just started taking ds to hairdresser in past six months. Before that he was a 4 with the clippers - any shorter he looked like phil mitchell 😂🤣

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2020 23:52

I do dh's but I don't think I would want to do my kids' personally.
Nothing wrong with doing it though. Dh was one of three brothers and none of them paid for a haircut until university thanks to MiL and they all now either do it themselves or get their wives to do it 🙄

Thanks.. I’ll have another go when he needs it again. Think I’ll go for the 4 on the top and 2 at the sides as it’s really starting to ‘grow’ (sorry) on me. Ds is enjoying the low maintenance haircut Smile
