To feel so disgusting and to ask strangers for advice?

I am so embarrassed by these pictures, but I have no one in real life I can ask. And I'm too ashamed to visit my doctor, plus I'd just be wasting their time.

I have an underactive thyroid which is managed by medication. I am not overweight in other places, yet my stomach is huge and round, but also saggy.

I have no idea how to even begin to find ways to solve this.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Why is my belly so big when the rest of me is a size 12.

I feel so ugly, disgusting, gross. Tops barely fit me anymore and I'm scared to move in case my top rides up at work and the belly is shown. My coat won't fasten up anymore. I look horrible in everything I wear. I just don't feel happy with my body at all.

Please don't be too harsh with me.

@CrazyPuddin I don't know whether you've tried this already, but I have to take thyroid meds too and before I got into a good routine of taking them, I set an alarm on my phone for the same time each day to remind me to take them. It was really helpful and it eventually became a habit for me to take them at that time so I don't need the alarm any more.

You’ve not taken your levo for two weeks?!

This will begin to impact your quality of life more than a wobbly tummy OP

BiggestJulie · 19/07/2020 12:01

@ahenderson270 I have read this thread revived from February and I hope you are okay too?

Atadaddicted · 19/07/2020 12:01

Put your tablets by your phone charging overnight.

TicketToTheWrongFilm · 19/07/2020 12:07

@CrazyPuddin

Also no I don’t drink but I do forget to take my medication frequently. I’m now taking them into work with me now I’m back in the office so my colleagues can hound me daily about remembering to take them.

Unfortunately I’ve not taken them in about 2 weeks and before that it was on and off as working from home.

Seems a catch 22 that my thyroid issues cause such bad memory yet not remembering to take my medication means that doesn’t get any better.

I have an alarm on my phone that goes off twice a day to remind me to take my meds - try something like that?

Just want to stay I sympathise. I have extremely poor digestion and get a very hard and distended stomach. It really affected my life. I discovered the fodmap diet and this has given me some more control.

But just wanted to say I know how this can affect your confidence and normal life. Flowers Hope you can find a cause.

Please see your GP., You will feel more relieved to have things checked out, instead of all this worrying at home.

IlCommissarioMontalbano · 19/07/2020 13:34

Contact your GP to rule out anything else, but my tummy is the same as this since 2 pregnancies and it's been diagnosed as diastasis recti by a Consultant (I have an umbilical hernia too-very pretty!)
Tricky to fix completely but can definately be made a bit better and stronger with specific exercise.
Mine looks a little flatter when I wake up but larger as the day goes on (mixture of IBS, bloat etc. too!)

CrazyPuddin · 19/07/2020 13:57

I’m going to try the alarm for a time in the morning when I’m in work and will take my tablets to work. Then it’s just the weekends I need to remember at home.

For those only reading the starts of the thread.. I’ve seen the doctor and I’ve had a scan to rule out anything sinister.

@HarleyQuinnRocks You changed names, so posters who have the OP posts highlighted might not realise.

Could you change back to your old name & update maybe?

You've done well to lose some weight, but you need to be much better at taking your meds consistently! Could you put them on your bedside table with a bottle of water & takevthem before you even get out of bed?

I hope once you take them consistently, your tummy goes flatter for you.

SweetBillie · 20/07/2020 06:36

OP I'm glad anything sinister has been ruled out. You do need to get into a good routine with your medication though! Smart phones are smart for a reason - get an alarm set and hopefully your bloated belly will be thing of the past sooner or later.

CrazyPuddin · 24/07/2020 06:58

Well I have managed all 5 days taking my tablets daily. And on Tuesday I started boxing training. I’ll be doing 4 days a week and then some workouts from home on other days.
I’m already 4lbs down so hopefully this will help me shift the belly or at least a good chunk of it.

I shall come back and up date on the progress lol.

CJCreggforpresident · 24/07/2020 07:23

That's great news CrazyPuddin! I'm glad the week has gone well

Thisisworsethananticpated · 24/07/2020 17:56

I also agree to start with a kind GP to try and bottom this out , get all the medications you take and read the side effects throughly

I used to have a huge tummy due to Fibroid’s

There is no point looking at diet and exercises until you have checked the medical

Don’t be ashamed Flowers

doadeer · 24/07/2020 18:01

Could it be diastasis recti - can you do some pilates?

Hannah888 · 24/07/2020 19:01

I could have written this op. I have a huge stomach - my 26 inch waist is now 55 inches! Mine started getting bigger and bigger 3 years ago and i feel it is only a matter of time before I have to push it around in a wheel barrow! Mine is caused by a hernia - in my case inoperable. It is so ugly. There is no treatment in my case but please get it checked. Your GP
will have forgotten what you look like never mind your sto mach before you get home.
