To feel so disgusting and to ask strangers for advice?

I am so embarrassed by these pictures, but I have no one in real life I can ask. And I'm too ashamed to visit my doctor, plus I'd just be wasting their time.

I have an underactive thyroid which is managed by medication. I am not overweight in other places, yet my stomach is huge and round, but also saggy.

I have no idea how to even begin to find ways to solve this.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Why is my belly so big when the rest of me is a size 12.

I feel so ugly, disgusting, gross. Tops barely fit me anymore and I'm scared to move in case my top rides up at work and the belly is shown. My coat won't fasten up anymore. I look horrible in everything I wear. I just don't feel happy with my body at all.

Please don't be too harsh with me.

NRTFT but seen that you have gone to the GP. Abnormal bloating is the one and only symptom of ovarian cancer DM had. By the time she saw a doctor there was nothing they could do. This, coupled with irregular bleeding would have had me racing to the GP. Anyone experiencing these symptoms please seek help.

HarleyQuinnRocks · 12/02/2020 13:24

Just phoned my doctors for my blood test results and it has all come back normal.

Even my thyroid apparently.

Ultrasound scan is booked for 24th February.

Next time you see the gp ask for a print out of your results.

WaggleWiggle · 12/02/2020 13:59

I have an underactive thyroid and my periods are regular but very heavy. That’s because I had fibroids though - at one point they were so big the ultrasound indicated my womb was the size of a 5 month pregnancy and I did look pregnant from the outside too. Had them removed but they do true back and my periods are still all clotted and gross. Glad you’re getting checked x

Fibroids? When I had my hysterectomy my fibroid was the size of a 7 month pregnancy.

AJPTaylor · 12/02/2020 14:40

Havent read the thread
Fibroids.
I saw a consultant who told me it was not normal to look 7 months pregnant.
Fibroids the size of a baby.
Hysterectomy rapidly followed. Best day of my life.

Thanks for update OP and good luck with the scan

Aridane · 14/02/2020 09:47

Abnormal bloating is the one and only symptom of ovarian cancer

No it’s not - ovarian cancer symptoms can also include loss of appetite/feeling full quickly, stomach pain, needing to pee more frequently, unexplained tiredness or weight loss and chNges in vowel movements.

Please do not perpetuate a misunderstanding that ovarian cancer is the one and only symptom of Ovarian cancer - that is so dangerous. Particularly given that NICE recommend ovarian cancer tests for symptoms other than swollen tummy

Walnutwhipster · 16/02/2020 20:19

@Aridane you missed part of my sentence and mistook my meaning. If you read it all you will see I put bloating was the one and only symptom my DM (dear mother) had when she was diagnosed. She was stage 4 and given two months. She died in August. I did not state it was the only symptom of Ovarian cancer, don't put words in my mouth.

icedgem85 · 16/02/2020 20:50

Hey, do go to the GP but is highly unlikely to be ascites related to ovarian cancer as many people have suggested. It’s much more likely to be something diet or cortisol related. Check out Cushing’s syndrome - I have that and my belly looks very much like yours unless I drop to a size 8 and give up bread and stress! And my ovaries are fine. My belly is all fat, not hard.

Stinkycatbreath · 16/02/2020 21:01

OP see your GP. I can guarantee they have seen more stomachs bums and other body parts than you have had hot dinners. They won't bat an eyelid.

ittakes2 · 16/02/2020 21:13

My stomach looks like that - and prob worse as I can only fit into maternity bottoms. Started Pilates and basically it’s thought my organs are not sitting properly in my pelvis and stomach so are going the only place they can - out. Ie I have a large protruding belly.
Honestly - be kind to yourself. You are much more than a belly!

Chocchoc88 · 16/02/2020 21:36

Keep us posted OP, hope the scan on 24th gives you the answers! Flowers

CrazyToast · 16/02/2020 21:43

Interesting--I also have an underactive thyroid and have belly fat and bloating. Perhaps that is why. Don't worry about all this cancer talk but do go to your GP.

RhiWrites · 16/02/2020 21:50

I feel very sad that whatever happens and even if I were to lose the fat through exercise etc that I'll be left with lots of excess skin and an overhang.

Speaking as someone who has lost a lot of weight, skin is surprisingly elastic. I don’t know what’s going on with your stomach right now but hopefully it will get fixed. Meanwhile drink lots of water and moisturise. And when you start to lose the bloating continue to drink lots of water and also (if you’re allowed) use an exercise bike. V good for toning this area.

Handbaghag · 19/07/2020 08:36

OP I've only just read this thread but what happened with your scan?

Rainbowx · 19/07/2020 09:04

Hope your ok OP 💐

Littlepond · 19/07/2020 09:09

Everyone saying see your GP - in my experience they don’t care! I have a fat stomach too. I am overweight, and GP told me I wasn’t overweight enough for them to help me - I “need” a BMI of 32 to get any help. I was worried about ovarian cancer so embellished my symptoms to get a referral.

My GP literally told me eat less move more and sent me on my way.

I also get horrible stomach cramps which can last days. I’ve seen several doctors about it. The most help I’ve had is a print out about IBS.

Littlepond · 19/07/2020 09:10

Oh just seen it’s an old thread sorry!! Should have RTFT Grin

Do you drink any alcohol?

OP I have hypothyroidism.
My belly looked like yours until I stopped drinking wine and reduced sugar in my diet. After a 2 stone weight loss all that was left was a big belly but it seems alcohol was the culprit because, when I stopped that, my wine belly shrank. But it’s good you are going to see GP to rule out any problems.

FatherBrownsBicycle · 19/07/2020 09:23

Apologies, I didn’t notice the date. I hope it was nothing sinister

PenelopePitstop49 · 19/07/2020 09:45

My stomach looks exactly the same. My muscles have never gone back and are badly separated, and I've got the classic c section apron after having 2 of them.

I got mine checked by GP but they said it's due to pregnancy and the only remedy is full abdominoplasty. I've not had it done because I don't think it's worth the surgical risk (I reacted badly to the anaesthetic in my 1st section). I just wear good support underwear.

SerenDippitty · 19/07/2020 09:49

An underactive was hydroids can make you more prone to belly fat. As I know from experience.
