To feel so disgusting and to ask strangers for advice?

I am so embarrassed by these pictures, but I have no one in real life I can ask. And I'm too ashamed to visit my doctor, plus I'd just be wasting their time.

I have an underactive thyroid which is managed by medication. I am not overweight in other places, yet my stomach is huge and round, but also saggy.

I have no idea how to even begin to find ways to solve this.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Why is my belly so big when the rest of me is a size 12.

I feel so ugly, disgusting, gross. Tops barely fit me anymore and I'm scared to move in case my top rides up at work and the belly is shown. My coat won't fasten up anymore. I look horrible in everything I wear. I just don't feel happy with my body at all.

Please don't be too harsh with me.

Though forever grateful for CS!

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 04/02/2020 23:38

OP, I am skinny as all fuck, but my stomach is proportionately similar to yours. There could be any number of reasons for it, but you do need to go to the GP to rule out what they are.

In my case, it's because I lost a lot of weight very suddenly, so my skin just shrivelled and doesn't have the stretch it used to (two DC here also).

You are not disgusting, not in the slightest. So get an appt and see what's going on.

Diastasis Recti, might be helpful?

MarieFromStTropez · 04/02/2020 23:54

Please get this checked out with your GP. Unlikely to be ovarian cancer but you need it ruled out.

OP, how is your weight generally?

Lozz22 · 05/02/2020 00:04

My tummy looks like this but I have Pcos. Have you been tested for the condition?

cakeandchampagne · 05/02/2020 00:07

Watching, waiting, hoping, praying, ignoring, giving up chocolate-
whatever you have tried hasn’t fixed it.
Please let a doctor help you as soon as possible.

Looking at your hand and the bottom half of you, you do look quite slim everywhere else so this is not normal.

Can you pinpoint exactly when in the month it's at it's most bloated? Do you get any pain?

chickenandchip · 05/02/2020 00:17

Yeah see the doctor. My stomach went like this when I got an ovarian cyst...big one (15cm). I used to think my tummy felt very hard at the bottom, under the fat, when I lay on my front in the bath it was like lying on a ball.

shamalidacdak · 05/02/2020 00:25

I have this if I eat dairy or gluten and I'm hypothyroid with hashimotos. More than likely is combo of gluten and dairy which you should avoid. Also could be high cortisol which is also a hypo symptom. I'm guessing you're on synthetic meds? Get off them and onto natural meds such as Armour if you can. Def see a doc to rule out other stuff, then see a doc who will treat you holistically. It's worth the money. Read Stop the thyroid Madness and educate yourself. Western medicine will keep you sick.

xoxoxoxoxoxoxo · 05/02/2020 00:40

Haven't RTFT but saw at least one saying thyroxine wouldn't cause that, and came on to agree. I'm on it - and it just replaces the level of thyroid hormone you should be producing naturally. It's not 'medication' as such, and doesn't have side effects. If you took too much it could maybe make you overstimulated and lose weight.....

Is your belly bloating or just droopy flab OP? If it's bloating then your GP may be able to help or rule out other causes. But if it's just untoned flab then a lot of us seem to have that....Grin. After children and C-sections especially, or just through age. Mine isn't dissimilar - but I do have a fat back as well, and bingo wings to match...….Sad!

DonKeyshot · 05/02/2020 01:36

It may not be fat and could be bloating due to ovarian issues such as cyst or ascites as mentioned in an above post.

Get it checked out and if it transpires it is fat, get exercising! Look on you tube for exercise regimes to target this specific area of your body.

Aridane · 05/02/2020 07:21

OK - OP has the message loud and clear to see her GP. Can we now lay off the OMG doomsday OP has ?ovarian cancer

HarleyQuinnRocks · 05/02/2020 07:33

I will phone my doctors at 8am and try and get an appointment. I doubt I'll get one as its a nightmare, but if not I'll ask if they can book in advance for another day.

I'm hoping it isn't a tolerance as I am on a very strict food budget and have to batch cook for me and my children. A tolerance would make that really difficult.

Saying that, a tolerance would be better than something more sinister.

If I feel my stomach when lying flat it's squishy it's not hard. So I do think it's fat.

I feel very sad that whatever happens and even if I were to lose the fat through exercise etc that I'll be left with lots of excess skin and an overhang.

Also half deaf this morning as my ears seem to feel blocked. So I also need a trip to the chemist for ear drops and cotton wool. Which will mean being fully deaf for a week whilst they work making me feel even more isolated and outcast.

Sigh...

Oh gosh mines the same. Maybe bigger. I’m not that large anywhere else. These comments have worried me because I just assume it’s fat! I overeat. - not saying you do at all. I had to have a medical and when I lifted my top up the doctor laughed and said oh my goodness it’s all hidden under there. Stung a bit.
I’m older than you so have given up on my appearance a bit. Single for over 15 years too so no man.

toomanyleggings · 05/02/2020 08:15

I honestly think there's a lot of scaremongering here. Stomachs do look like that when you've lost muscle tone and carry your weight there. No harm in being checked out but I would wager that it is just loose belly fat and nothing a good proportion of women have under their tops

HarleyQuinnRocks · 05/02/2020 08:24

I have an appointment tomorrow morning. All appointments already gone for today.

OP posts:
SunsetBoulevard3 · 05/02/2020 09:00

I would just say as someone on thyroxine also, this shouldn't be the cause.
Most likely to be gluten /dairy intolerance but worth getting checked out anyway.
In my experience doctors know nothing about food intolerances by the way.

Bread999 · 05/02/2020 09:05

It might be Cushing's Syndrome - You should see your GP. One of the symptoms it weight gain around the abdomen with stretch marks.

jackstini · 05/02/2020 10:25

Glad you have got an appointment OP
If I wasn't on a tram I'd send you a pic of mine just so you know you're not alone
I have had 2 cs and always have an apron, but did go to GP when it got much bigger and they did blood tests/ultrasound. Mine was NAFLD - but they said there are many simple reasons and I was right to get it checked

Justaboy · 05/02/2020 11:48

I have an appointment tomorrow morning. All appointments already gone for today.

Progress!, cos if you did't we woz goonna send the boyz round to take you on a l'ill ride!!

ahenderson270 · 05/02/2020 13:32

OP .. please don't hate me ...

Do a pregnancy test.

Your story is mine .. 100% up to the point I had to just rule it out .. I have a coil, only had sex three times last year all with a condom and twice I used the morning after pill within 6 hours after.

I'm now sat here 26w5d pregnant with a baby I was adamant couldn't be there. I am still having periods (obviously now being called bleeds) and have had zero symptoms despite being bed bound for all my other previous pregnancies with morning sickness that went from conception to birth, pelvic girdle pain and rupture of waters early on.

If I'm way off then so be it but .. the similarities in our stories are insane! And I'd feel bad for not highlighting it ..

Also .. pics of bump before I knew and today

HarleyQuinnRocks · 05/02/2020 17:44

I am bleeding heavily and have not had sex in about a year. I am 100% not pregnant.

KoalasandRabbit · 05/02/2020 19:02

Fibroids can cause heavy and irregular bleeding inbetween periods. Good you are seeing doctor and hopefully will find out what is causing it. Bet they ask if you're pregnant too Grin

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 05/02/2020 22:22

Glad you're going to see the doctor Op.
