*TMI* Could these swabs be inaccurate?

NC for this.

I had unprotected sex with someone I don't know 5 weeks ago. I got swabs done to test for STIs last week. I've had them done before and the doctor has always taken a swab from the cervix and put the swab in the test tube to be sent away. This time she simply wiped some discharge from the inside of my vagina with a swab, tapped the discharge off into a test tube with liquid in, put the swab in the bin and put a lid on.

The swabs came back as negative today but I'm worried they weren't done correctly. Has anyone had STI tests done this way before?

We used to have STI test stalls in our student's union and they just give you the swabs to swab inside your vagina, not cervix as you wouldn't really be able to do this yourself easily. They can get results from this and don't have to swab your cervix anymore.

But without sending the swab away either? Just a bit of discharge?

You can order an STI test online, which is free and discrete
