To think that Pinner must be full of Egyptians?

I've been looking at houses for sale in Pinner. (Don't ask, I've never been there and I'm quite unlikely to as far as I know.)

But anyway, a spooky amount of the houses I am viewing on Rightmove in Pinner seem to have some sort of Egyptian theme going on. Sphinxes and pharoahs and the like. I had no idea that Pinner was the hub of choice for the British based Egyptian diaspora.

Is it? Have I inadvertently stumbled across something, like the Italian continent in Bedford or the Portuguese in Vauxhall?

Or is it all a massive coincidence and Pinner is actually full of English couples called Brenda and Stan who've just bought lots of souvenirs from their Nile cruise holidays?

Also, WTF is going on in this house do you suppose?

The entrance hall with a lion and a cot? Mindboggle!

jay55 · 04/02/2020 13:47

I think it's Dorian from Bird's of a feather's new gaff. Someone brought her a lion instead of a leopard. She was having none of it, so got it stuffed.

Bipbipbipbip · 04/02/2020 13:48

The lion and the cot! What a welcome to a house!

LizziesTwin · 04/02/2020 13:48

That is very special. Not sure how many people have stuffed lionesses in their reception rooms?

Proudpeacock · 04/02/2020 13:56

Well the cot is obviously to keep the baby away from the lion.

Feelsdeadpeople · 04/02/2020 14:00

Aside from the cot, guarded by a lion, the thing I love about that house is the mirror above the sink. I assume after you've brushed your teeth you look up to the ceiling & grin 😁

Newdadtogirl · 04/02/2020 14:00

I love the Lion.
Houses that cost less than £100,000 in South Wales don't come with a stuffed Lion! I know, I've been looking.
The 1450000 at the top of the page is the phonenumber for the agent, right?

Why did you have to show me that house!!!! Envy it's sooo pretty!!!

DeathByPuppy · 04/02/2020 14:05

I think there’s quite a big Indian community in Pinner, a lot of whom are pretty wealthy. It seems to be a popular decor style amongst that demographic Smile

Bluedogyellowcat · 04/02/2020 14:05

Ha ha Pinner is a lovely area. I’m not aware that it’s any kind of Egyptian hub but it does have a very large Asian community

Auridon4life · 04/02/2020 14:07

Don't worry I have been reliably informed I have very bad taste. But that bathroom, kitchen and hallway are amazing!!

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 04/02/2020 14:08

Ok, perhaps Indians with a thing for Egyptian holidays then. And African safaris.

It's probably keeping up with the Joneses a small microcosm of taste in a secluded area.

NameChangeNugget · 04/02/2020 14:08

I agree with @DeathByPuppy about the ethnic make up of Pinner/Eastcote, really lovely area.

As an aside, The Queens Head in the High Street does a banging Sunday lunch totally irrelevant

No darling, bad taste is always something other people have. Grin

Not helpful, but my grandparents used to live in pinner when I was a kid. Many happy hours were spent either riding a tricycle down a hill or sliding headfirst down their stairs. We lived in a bungalow so stairs were a noveltyGrin

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 04/02/2020 14:12

and I meant to type the Italian contingent in Bedford, not continent. Confused

I can just imagine Cleopatra in the bath in picture number 10.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 04/02/2020 14:28

Thank you so much @WhereShallWeMoveTo I'm really struggling to sell the house, hopefully a lovely mner will want to buy it.
Baby said the buyer can't keep his lioness 😂

GCAcademic · 04/02/2020 14:35

A lot of British Asians were in East Africa before they moved here. It's pretty common to see African stuff in their homes - I've seen various exotic animal skins before though never an actual stuffed lion.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 14:38

Wow - photo 4! I wouldn't say Egyptian but could make a fair guess at where the inhabitants hail from. I love looking at hone photos and the decorations/furniture.

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 04/02/2020 14:40

Of course, good point GC It doesn’t really explain the Egyptian thing though.

So do I Lord it’s fascinating seeing the difference in preferred decor styles depending on the heritage/culture of the owners. If like to look for clues and then try to spot patterns in other houses in the same area —sad hobby—

I’m disappointed I was wrong about the little
known Egyptians of Pinner 😂
