To think that Pinner must be full of Egyptians?

I've been looking at houses for sale in Pinner. (Don't ask, I've never been there and I'm quite unlikely to as far as I know.)

But anyway, a spooky amount of the houses I am viewing on Rightmove in Pinner seem to have some sort of Egyptian theme going on. Sphinxes and pharoahs and the like. I had no idea that Pinner was the hub of choice for the British based Egyptian diaspora.

Is it? Have I inadvertently stumbled across something, like the Italian continent in Bedford or the Portuguese in Vauxhall?

Or is it all a massive coincidence and Pinner is actually full of English couples called Brenda and Stan who've just bought lots of souvenirs from their Nile cruise holidays?

Also, WTF is going on in this house do you suppose?

That house looks like what I used to make on the Sims when I was 11

The Pharaoh in the bedroom Shock

Pinner has a very wealthy Afro-Indian community (not just East Africa but North and Central too). A lot of people are either from Egypt or travel via Egypt (and make a holiday of it) to get to their end destination.

Bingo! I knew it and I claim my prize.

OP, you realise that Egyptians don’t buy or display the tat we tourists buy, right? I’ve never seen a bloody papyrus in an Egyptian home Grin

Their style is something like an old grannies might have aspired to in some forgotten corner of France in the 1980s.

Horrid reproductions.

Some more. I pulled these off Houz from businesses who advertise Interior Design services in Cairo. This was what the rich middle and upper class’ homes looked like. Though now that there’s an Ikea in the country, it’s hopefully changing tastes. Problem is, young couples usually get their first homes furnished for them as a gift, so the interior decor often reflects the parents’ preferences.

Name changed, but that's a road very very near me! I might have to go for a walk with our dog later to check it out!!

I've just looked at the photos of the house again and realised that the cot is actually in a little made to measure cot sized alcove/niche, replete with its own roman pillar.

Why? Why would you do that? In the entrance hall? Confused

Maybe it’s for a baby lion?

transformandriseup · 04/02/2020 18:53

I can't see the photos but my parents have a massive scarab on the outside wall of the house which they bought after seeing The Mummy 20 years ago.

Thelnebriati · 04/02/2020 18:59

Whats the point of a worried looking stuffed lion?

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 19:07

My parent used to have a load of Egyptian -tourist tat- artefacts as well as -tourist tat- items from all over the world from their travels.

ArabellaRockerfella · 04/02/2020 19:15

I have lived in Pinner for over 12yrs and have never met an Egyptian!!!
I may have walked like one once!

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 04/02/2020 19:20

Maybe it’s a hot bed of illuminati-they’re very into Egyptian imagery aren’t they?

I’d be wary about moving into that area in case you’re dragged into an age old secret society.

SinglePringle · 04/02/2020 19:22

Ah man, that could be an amazing house!

The current decor is beyond minging - the kitchen! The ceiling in the hall! All of it! But it had so much potential.

BUY IT! (And Pinner is not bad. Used to get pissed in a swanky bar there as a 16 year old! No idea what it was called).

Davros · 04/02/2020 19:36

I've got some very good friends who live in Pinner and they are Jewish. They have a big circle of Jewish friends there and attend synagogue in the town. I think Pinner is a lovely place and it's on the tube. Just a bit too far out for me

Cherrysoup · 04/02/2020 19:55

An elderly relative has bought a houseful of Egyptian artefacts (by which I mean cheap replicas off Amazon). Perhaps it’s an older person thing? He’s not even into Egyptology, it’s a sudden new odd thing. His house is rammed! He’s definitely losing the plot, bless him, but because he has capacity still (just), his close family can’t really stop him.

LisBethSalander07 · 04/02/2020 20:02

I knew from the 1st photo what that house was going to look like inside........ it was the pillars above the front door Grin

It's like the house that taste forgot................

Jocasta2018 · 04/02/2020 20:03

Characterful indeed....!

SterlingViolet · 05/02/2020 02:25

That mirror on the bathroom wall, at a downward angle...
that would make me think I look better than I really do,
while looking up into it, and 'instant facelift'.

heath48 · 05/02/2020 02:33

@Lordfrontpaw 😅😂🤣

SterlingViolet · 05/02/2020 02:42

@Nekoness ~

In that second photo, second post -- I'd gladly take everything in that room, except for what is on and above the mantle.

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 05/02/2020 04:35

@lidoshuffle
It's like one of those work awayday icebreaker puzzles; you have a lion, a baby, a chicken and a bag of corn and you can only take one at a time to the car ....

Brilliant!

The decor is truly awful.

Henrysmycat · 05/02/2020 05:00

Bags of potential. Looks like an older couples home. The cot must be for a grandchild. A lot easier to put them to bed there that hauling your 70 yo butt up stairs, especially if you’re not using a baby monitor.
Must have been pretty in the 80’s and the black bathroom is still ok.
Good bones to the house. Pinner’s ok for london suburbs.
I’m sure, 30 years from now, people will laugh at our faux-scandi ikea grey sameness with the rose gold Oliver Bonas vases of the current styles.

Auridon4life · 05/02/2020 05:14

It's all soo pretty!!!!!
