Two weeks ago my father’s consultant (who has been looking after him daily for two months) took me into a side room in the hospital to say that she had assessed him as having less than three months to live, that the hospital was completing an NHS Continuing Health Care application to fund either an increased care package at home or to go into a hospice. On Thursday of last week we received a letter from the hospital saying he had been assessed two days later by the Palliative Care Consultant, he had improved and she thought he was not yet ready for a hospice. The letter said they now plan to send my father home and for his needs to be assessed at home.
AIBU - I am really confused, worried and would like to speak to a dr. Do they now think he will live longer?i know it might seem unreasonable but if he’s likely to live a bit longer we’d like to know. He’s presenting exactly the same as before - not talking,, eating or drinking : he’s just lying in bed groaning in pain. Nothing seems any different to us. We’ve asked the drs we see daily but they simply shrug and say they don’t know.
I’m worried that they intend to send him home with his existing care package (which is based on him being able to walk - which he can’t now do). I just don’t know what to do. AIBU to be feeling very anxious ?
