To ask how you balance work and kids?

How do people on here balance having a job and kids? Are you in senior positions with kids - how do you manage? Or did you decide to stop focussing on progression to focus on kids? Do you regret that?

Sorry I didn't actually answer the question on how to get balance!

  • find employer with flexible working
  • get a cleaner
  • accept your won't eat gourmet food everyday!
  • plan good holidays and family time to make up for it
  • cut corners where you can - take the kids in the shower with you and all wash your hair together as we have just done!

I got a job that allows me to work from home. It means we have more time in the evening for quality time because I'm no longer doing a 2 hour commute.

You don't have to sacrifice your career, your kids have another parent ....

I dropped down to 30 hours so we have Monday's together. I think when I apply for a position in the next band up then I'll struggle with 4 days and will go back to 5. Career certainly not on hold, I'm in the best position I've ever been with plenty of opportunity.

I don't find it too much of a struggle to be honest, but then DH does nursery run everyday as he drives and I commute by public transport. Sometimes I do struggle with having to leave the office by a certain time though.

Also tend to log on in an evening and do some work about once a week.

I also work from home on a Friday. So I only go into the office 3 days a week.

I work 4 days but two of those are from home which helps as I can throw on the washing machine/slow cooker etc. I do have a long commute on the other two days. I couldn't do it without my mum doing childcare on my two office days to cover the long hours, and learning to live with exhaustion!

I am a single parent though so no flex.

Both DH and I work full-time in 'career' jobs with high responsibility. We have a nearly 5 year old and a 1 year old. We are incredibly organised in the house, have a cleaner and a very reliable childminder. No family to help. Luckily our girls have never been off sick from nursery/school/childminder, apart from a few days with chicken pox. We never sit down, constantly on the go. Weekends are family time, week days go by in a blur. We are very happy!
