To not like pizza?

Inspired by the breakfast thread.

It's DD's turn to choose what we eat for dinner. She's gone for pizza. I've always found pizza a bit meh but perhaps I've just not found the "one".

What's your favourite pizza? Takeaway or homemade? What toppings? Maybe you can convert me!

We like Asda create your own pizza. You get a choice of base and sauce and then 4 toppings. I really like their spicy chicken and so does ds.

elQuintoConyo · 02/02/2020 18:06

Yesterday's roast chicken shredded on top, with some blobs of sweet mustard. The dogs bollocks.

Ristorante Hawaii.

Definitely not supermarket pizza. They're ok as a lazy dinner option, but they aren't proper pizza imo. The base is rubbish and the toppings taste plasticky and not fresh.

Best pizza is homemade or from a proper Italian pizza place. Very thin base and not too heavy on the toppings. Good mozzarella, good tomato sauce. I'm not a fan of chicken on pizza and definitely not bbq sauce.

Another vote for homemade pizza. Tastes so much nicer with a fresh dough and it’s not that hard, you just need time on your side.

My favourite is with bbq sauce, cheese, sweet corn and bbq chicken bits.

Hoohaahoo · 02/02/2020 18:16

Also like home made dough pizza with grilled pepper, courgette and red onion.

Absoluteunit · 02/02/2020 18:29

@dementedpixie ASDA is DD's favourite too but she likes just plain cheese and tomato.

@Hoohaahoo the pepper, courgette and red onion one sounds nice! I might have to try that Smile

Find your best local authentic Italian. I do enjoy a Dr Oetker freezer job, or a Domino's as much as the next person and would happily polish the whole thing off, but pizza it ain't. Once you've had the real thing, you may "get what the fuss is about". I'd suggest eating in to ensure you get a steaming hot freshly cooked one, which is also important - it becomes something entirely different if you leave it for 5 minutes.

If you want to make your own and have limited time/can't be arsed to fuck around with dough, I thoroughly reccomend the Crosta and Mollica premade and pre-tomatoed bases, sold in large supermarkets.

If I'm out, I'll go for some kind of spicy Italian sausage based extravaganza. At home, I pesonally like a pancetta, brie and cranberry sauce topping, but I'm the first to admit that I'm a weirdo with food...

Sourdough pizzas are lovely. Tesco do bases ready made. I top with Napolina sauce, cheddar and mozzarella and sliced cherry tomatoes and fresh basil.

Nanamilly · 02/02/2020 18:36

I’m not a pizza lover but I can happily eat the real deal when I’m Italy. They really are nothing like what’s served up in Asda etc.

My favourite pizzas doesn’t have any cheese, they have a tomato sauce base, rocket, tomato, anchovies. Another favourite has the same base but with mushrooms, tomatoes and rocket.

Every pizza menu in Italy has the no cheese version of pizza.

I love DH's homemade pizza with mozzarella, sundried tomato, Parma ham and basil. I can take or leave supermarket pizza but Papa John's is definitely my go-to hangover cure!

SlowSigh · 02/02/2020 18:42

I've always found pizza a bit meh

Tomato, mozzarella, basil is the only pizza

also partial to an Asda super thin spinach pizza until they discontinued them

countrygirl99 · 02/02/2020 18:43

We are lucky enough to live in an area with a big Italian population. Pizza is a treat as supermarket ones just don't cut it.

Ponoka7 · 02/02/2020 18:45

I also like the Asda ones. Thin and crispy, Garlic base, onions, mushrooms, peppers, mozzarella cheese and garlic oil.

Sourdough bases are nice. I also like spinach and goats cheese.

Ponoka7 · 02/02/2020 18:46

My DD likes a bbq base with spicy meat.

FuzzyAtmosphere · 02/02/2020 18:50

The great thing about pizza is that you can put exactly what you want on it and make it your ideal meal.

Years ago I used to have a bread maker that I used purely for pizza bases. Yum!

I have recently found the Gino D'Acampo range of pizza in Iceland and it's the best frozen pizza I ever had. I personally like the Sardinia best but my vegetarian daughter loves the Margherita.
