And leave chilli con carne cooking and to ask DH to make sure it is simmering.
I come back, heat has gone out, it's not cooked. 'Oh it was boiling so I turned it down.'
Yes, so it didn't cook at all! Dinner late, everyone hungry, is it too much to ask?
Also I have no kidney beans becasue he went to the supermarket ("Just say if you want me to help') and got baked beans instead!

You are not being unreasonable, but unfortunately you were a bit unrealistic! Bless him, mine does the same thing, and it drives me up the wall! I would punish him by making him buy you a meal out or a takeaway!

chocchipcookie · 02/09/2007 01:00

Not sure what the alternative is - do it all myself or leave big list of instructions ('Turn down heat but not so much that it goes out') like loony control freak!!!

As they say, if you want something done, do it yourself.

Getting your dp to step in and assist in things that aren't on their priority list is like asking a drunk to run a bar.

On the other hand, is he one of those men that can only do things with strict and clear instructions and if you haven't clearly written kidney beans on a shopping list he thinks it gives him carte blanche to just be a dumbass and get baked beans?

MrsMarvel · 02/09/2007 01:17

Aha. Thought so.

chocchipcookie · 02/09/2007 03:14

Dear Mrs Marvel. I wrote 'kidney beans for chilli.' But that is not clear enough. So next time I will write 'kidney beans for chilli not baked beans.'
Then sit back and wait for frozen peas.

(DS rowed in to say he preferred it without the beans anyway).

Oh that IS bad.

He really does just want you to do it all doesn't he?

chipmonkey · 02/09/2007 23:43

You can make chilli with baked beans btw, my kids prefer it to chilli made with kidney beans.

chipmonkey · 02/09/2007 23:43

btw chocchipcookie, my Easter name was chocolatechipmonkey, are we related?

MrsMarvel · 03/09/2007 00:25

These names are confusing me. Perhaps next time he should have chips for dinner?

Hurlyburly · 03/09/2007 00:27

You let your husband do the food shopping? Ooh you are brave.

chocchipcookie · 03/09/2007 01:47

No, I am desperate.

Oh no, chocchipcookie. Doesn't sound as if you asked too much but obviously your expectations were a little high this time.
