Anyone able to tell me in layman’s terms? I googled it but couldn’t put it into context

Revenge could be carried out by anyone, possibly unjustly.
Retribution is by some higher authority. Or someone who thinks they are. Possibly with god on their side.

Retribution is proportionate and justly justified whereas revenge can be worse than the transgression or even morally unjustified/called for objectively thinking.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/02/2020 15:48

Revenge is about making the wrong-doer suffer. Retribution is more about seeking justice in behalf of the victim.

Trahira · 02/02/2020 15:49

To me, revenge is an act that is deliberately carried out by the wronged party whereas retribution comes from someone else.

Say someone crashes into you and your car is a write off. Retribution is suing them for damages. Revenge is slashing their tyres.
