Childhood dream job VS now?

I always wanted to be a vet when I was a child. I work for my local council in the housing department. Did anyone fulfil their childhood dream or are they doing something very different now?

Wanted to be an actress but never did anything to pursue it, dunno why. Got managed into academic path I guess.

Was lawyer for bit, found it dull, now housewife 🤷‍♀️

I once nearly made my friend's mum crash the car when I solemnly informed her I was either going to be a farmer's wife or a brain surgeon.

... I'm not either. Don't think I'd want to be tbh.

I wanted to be a writer - and I am! Multipublished and award winning, so I'm glad I held out.

But then again it doesn't pay the bills. I also wanted to be a dairy farmer (did it for a few years) or a dog trainer (I just train my own, and going by her behaviour, I wasn't cut out for it as a profession). Ordinary jobs just never appealed to me.

I work part time in a small local supermarket to cover the bills.

I wanted to be a stockbroker, my career has been investment banking so pretty close. Pay is good but the job is pretty dull.

Wanted to be a solicitor (not sure why) but now I work in records management and archives.

Should have stuck with the solicitor as would be paid more by now.

I wanted to be a political journalist after studying media and politics.
I'm actually a section manager in a supermarket when I'm not on maternity leave.

My husband wanted to be a cat but he’s a firefighter now instead. Grin

I wanted to be a teacher, now an engineer. However I do lead lots of the STEM activities on site and do school visits promoting engineering. Ao I get to do bits of it, but with much better pay!

Wanted to be a vet since 8 and became a vet! Now on Mat Leave after 7 years working and considering not going back as it's a tough job that's not paid well enough imo

I wanted to be an astronaut. My parents at laughed at me and said women couldn’t be astronauts. It was 1985. Then I wanted to be an archeologist but was pushed the life science at school as ‘that’s where the jobs are’. Failed to get a life sciences job despite a 2.1 from uni so I am an accountant in the NHS. It’s interesting for an office job and part time so I will probably never leave (or progress).

Wanted to be a nurse/neonatal nurse in SCBU
Instead I work in research - still in NHS though. Much prefer computers to people

I wanted to work in nature conservation. I work in nature conservation (admittedly I dont actually save rhinos, which is what first attracted me to the profession).

That made me smile. Ds2 went through a phase of wanting to be a flamingo. Now he wants to be an actor. Personally I think being a flamingo promises a more stable career path.

I wanted to either be a teacher, forensic scientist, singer or actress Grin. I’m a teacher so I guess I fulfilled one of the dreams...

I originally wanted to be a teacher, then that morphed into musician.

I was employed for a few years as a musician then sold out to a corporation because they paid better...I wasn't that good a musician!

Now I create learning materials and train in classrooms for said corporation. Not a million miles from teaching but certainly not the future I envisioned as a child.

Wanted to be a hit woman when I was a kid. Then when older a scientist, so I did a Chemistry degree then decided I couldn’t stand lab work (though loved learning the theory) so I sold out and now work in business strategy - in a job title I made up - which I LOVE and find so interesting even though my life isn’t quite as interesting as Killing Eve.

I wanted to be an air hostess, despite not flying till I was 20. (We always went to Ireland by ferry when I was a kid.)

My other option was a nurse, I'm a CPN now which wasn't what I imagined at the time. I thought I'd be on a ward giving bedpans, checking temperatures and changing dressings.
