Bra gate- how often do you wash yours?

So, I’m still in hospital bored out my mind , too much time to question what I do in life, and I saw a post yesterday about how many bras is reasonable as the OP had one bra but washed it daily. Then it made me think, how often are you supposed to wear a bra before washing it without it seeming like you’ve left it too long and are a disgusting human? Like for me personally , no judgment (🤣) I have goodness knows how many bras , perhaps 15, I definitely don’t wear them all, they’re different types, and since being pregnant most of them are useless anyway, but I can wear one for three days In a row before washing it if I’m wearing it for work, I may have even left one 4 days I’m not even sure who I am anymore...
I’ve never got sweaty around my breasts or armpits for some reason, so never really thought anything of it until now. I don’t change them every day like I do pants and socks , and never even thought about how long is too long - why has that never occurred to me ? I Change my pants twice daily obviously , and socks once as I don’t wear them at night, but bloody hell maybe I’m disgusting , three days before washing my Over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder? 🤦🏽‍♀️
Let me know what your judgment is-should I go confess my sins in Church when I leave hospital or is MN enough ?

Daily - I just lob my knickers and bra into the laundry when I take them off. I wouldn't wear a top more than once, so the same goes for a bra.

I have a million bras, so it makes it easy. Most of them say hand wash/do not tumble dry, but I wash them in the machine and tumble dry them.

Episcomama · 02/02/2020 14:29

I wash mine every day. Too close to my armpits to consider any longer than that!

OP - how are you changing underwear twice a day? Surely you just put clean ones on in the morning and take off at night?

TheNewSchmoo · 02/02/2020 14:29

Two days in a row then wash

Mintjulia · 02/02/2020 14:35

I have 7 or 8 normal bras, two sports bras and a strapless one. Wear them once, throw them in the laundry basket.

But I don’t buy expensive glamorous bras, I have cotton T-shirt bras.

Ninjava · 02/02/2020 14:43

I have two bras that fit but one is my favourite and gets worn 95% of the time. I wash it in a net bag every time I do a dark clothes wash so maybe twice a week on average 🤷🏻‍♀️

U2HasTheEdge · 02/02/2020 14:45

Once a week.

DinosaurDreams · 02/02/2020 14:50

2 days and then wash. Change daily in summer.

Hefzi · 02/02/2020 14:56

Every day. It's tight and next to my skin - like socks and knickers.

I am always slightly baffled by the MN disconnect on threads like this - it's considered rank not to shower a minimum of daily, and lots of comments how colleagues "don't smell fresh" because they don't, but stuff that's hard against your skin is fine to put back dirty on your clean self. Confused. (NB I don't careeither way, I just find the narrative around cleanliness interesting Grin)

Shockers · 02/02/2020 14:58

Every couple of wears. I wash all my clothes on a gentle 30 degree cycle though.

OverByYer · 02/02/2020 15:01

I’m a funny size, so only have 2 bras ( apart from sports bras) I have to say only wash every 3 or 4 wears. In my defence I shower every day and my bras don’t seem to smell despite being so near to my underarms.
I’d love more bras so I could wash more often but at £45 a pop just not feasible

StarlightLady · 02/02/2020 15:02

Same as my tops, one wear and in the wash.

AdoraBell · 02/02/2020 15:06

Usually 1 wear, sometimes more. Depends on my work days and head space.

BlueJava · 02/02/2020 15:15

I wash mine after wearing for a day, or one gym session. I sweat, have a long commute which is often hot so just feel I need to. However, all I do is save them up then chuck them in the machine on "silks" then hang on the clothes horse once a week.

veryvery · 02/02/2020 15:19

Pretty much everyday because I run pretty much everyday. All the bras I wear regularly, I can run in. I don't wear underwires so washing does not seem to affect them too badly. Most of my bras are black or at least dark colours.

veryvery · 02/02/2020 15:19

Oh and mine go in the machine.

Ginfordinner · 02/02/2020 15:19

but stuff that's hard against your skin is fine to put back dirty on your clean self

Because they don’t get dirty or smelly after one wear in my case. The band is well below my armpit, and my boobs aren’t big enough for under-boob sweat. I put clean knickers, socks or tights and a clean top on every day, but I really don’t need a clean bra on every day.

Washing a bra so frequently is bound to shorten the life of its elasticity.

MRex · 02/02/2020 15:22

Every 2-4 days. Sports bra only gets one wear because I only wear it to get very sweaty.

The best nursing bras depend on your boob size. Mine are very large with a proportionally smaller back, so I find underwired and non-underwired Elomi the most comfy and supportive. John Lewis for the overnight nursing bras. The Anita was comfy too, but came up quite small in the cup and I didn't get around to finding a big enough cup size before I gave up and used the Elomi. I went up 4 to 5 cup sizes over the 3 weeks after giving birth, so I'd advise anyone to just buy what you need for now plus some super-stretchy big night-time ones and wait to pick your new "nice" nursing bras once feeding is established.

firstimemamma · 02/02/2020 15:25

I'll happily wear a bra 2-3 times in a row before washing. I'd only consider washing daily if I'd sweated lots e.g hot day or exercise.

Musmerian · 02/02/2020 15:41

My bras are ridiculously expensive- about £90 per bra. Necessary as 34H and makes an enormous difference. I go weeks without washing them as it’s not great for longevity. Lots of Chanel does the trick.

CrowleysBentley · 02/02/2020 15:46

I wash mine after every wear. I have big boobs, so under boob sweat is definitely a thing, though I do talc my underboob area after I shower in the mornings. I get spots where straps and the under boob band sit if I don't wash them after every wear, and it feels gross. I have loads of bras though, any time I find a comfy one I buy a few of them, and my normal everyday type bras are cotton, so are very comfortable and breathable, but not exactly sexy lingerie.

JRUIN · 02/02/2020 15:47

Every couple of days.

WaggleWiggle · 02/02/2020 16:12

I wear a bra twice then wash it. I wear black a lot and I can actually see my shedded dead skin on the fabric which I know is part of being a human, but still! Honestly, look at your bras closely and you’ll wash them too! They don’t need to smell of sweat to be in need of a wash.

sadatchristmas1 · 02/02/2020 16:32

I wear a clean bra everyday.

U2HasTheEdge · 02/02/2020 16:38

My band doesnt touch my armpits either. My boobs are very small, I don't sweat enough for it to warrant daily washing.

GaaaaarlicBread · 02/02/2020 18:09

Well most of you seem to be with me , and others I can totally see your sense and I do feel like maybe I’m a bit gross but thanks for not judging 😋
