To think there is something really wrong with Dd's tummy?

Apologies in Advance for the grammar \typos posting from a phone with broken screen!

Dd is 9. Last Sunday night she was in tears with bad tummy. Monday I booked an appt first thing with Gp, she then said she felt absolutely fine, so I called back and cancelled. Obviously she almost immediately said it was really painful.

So took her to pharmacist who said she could try gaviscon and some sort off wind tablets as she thought it wAs trapped wind causing the symptoms. Didn't really do anything tbh and she still hurt Tuesday so she stayed home a second day. Intermittent pain but less than Monday.

Wednesday she went to school but they called me to collect her after lunch when the pain came back. I got a doc appointment for the evening. Doctor said it was reflux, eat more yogurt. Come back in a week if not any better.

Thursday and Friday intermittent pain.

Today she felt terrible so 111 organised an out off hours appt with a practice nurse. She said it felt like dd had constipation and could feel it in her stomach. Gave us movicol. Said it could take a couple days.

She has had four sachets today and still in pain. But she has been for two poos. She was pretty hysterical just now when I tried to get her to sleep. She's just laying next to me in pain.

It feels like one side under her rib is puffier than other side

Symptoms to date have been

Nausea
Acid reflux
Bloat
Tiny bit of blood in poo
Green poo twice (I haven't seen it, her description)
head ache
Churning tummy
Pain all over stomach to the touch and inside

She hasn't had fever

Three HCPs and three different ideas for what is wrong. HmmSad

Thoughts?

My son suffered with constipation and was on movical. Orange juice made it worse. Lots of water and I found linseeds in yogurt were great about a spoonful but again lots of fluid preferably water. Small amount of prune juice is great too and never failed to get him moving but not too much or can cause stomach cramps. If its backed up the impacted poo will still be there.
I'd try prune juice but also trust your instincts and if unsure go to hospital to check it out.
Dont underestimate how painful severe constipation can be though

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 01/02/2020 21:03

Ive got crohn's and my pain would come and go like that, from being fine to being in tears, then twenty mins later I was fine again.
Don't let them fob you off, if it continues can they do blood tests for inflammation and white cells etc.?

GeraldineFangedVagine · 01/02/2020 21:06

If you press gently over the right lower abdomen above her hip, watch if it’s more painful when you press or when you release. Appendicitis tends to be more painful on the release than the press. I would just go to A and E tbh, the nurse sounds a bit old school. Just because she can hop doesn’t mean she can’t have appendicitis.

Littlemeadow123 · 01/02/2020 21:14

I agree with people who say to take her to A&E. You have tried GPs and out of hours doctors and they haven't solved the problem.

MummyGoingItAlone · 01/02/2020 21:15

A dose of milk of magnesia works wonders for constipation. I’m not sure the age you can use it from though.
I hope she feels better soon. Constipation is horrible

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 01/02/2020 21:17

This was my DD age 9. She had a ruptured appendix. I haven't RTFT yet so apologies but if you haven't already, a and e straight away. Ask her to jump, if she can't or cries it's probably appendix.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 01/02/2020 21:18

My DD had emergency surgery only a few weeks ago and I've only just got her home from hospital so please please don't wait

Tink2007 · 01/02/2020 21:19

My friends son was complaining of this last week - it was his appendix. Please get it checked.

Nightflower · 01/02/2020 21:23

I too think you should take her to A&E. I had MILD pain sometimes I was feeling fine, sometimes I could feel the pain, but nothing serious. Initially my "brilliant" dad thought I am faking it because I had an exam coming, luckily for me he took me to the doctor to "prove me wrong" . I was admitted to hospital and had surgery with in hours. Dr said my appendix was about to burst and get into serious complications. Please insist and don't go until you are assured nothing serious is going on. Getting 3 different diagnoses is not reassuring Blush

GeraldineFangedVagine · 01/02/2020 21:26

Also if it is her appendix her having lots of laxatives and the accompanying straining and bowel movements are not the best thing. Can do no harm to get her checked out. Hope she feels better soon.

PlanDeRaccordement · 01/02/2020 21:27

I’d take her to A&E. It could be very serious. Diverticulosis. Appendicitis (nurse is wrong btw, I drove a work mate to A&E and his appendix had burst hours before but he was walking and going up steps although in pain. What people can do when in pain depends on their pain threshold not how serious things are.)

PlanDeRaccordement · 01/02/2020 21:32

Another work mate completed a 5 mile morning run and then her appendix burst while she was having a drink of water in her kitchen. An our later, she had an emergency surgery. She said she had a tummy ache but thought it was just cramps from the running. Seriously. She texted me on her way into the operating theatre explaining why she was not in the office (shes addicted to her phone).

shuuush · 01/02/2020 21:34

My dd had similar symptoms and it turned out she had H Pylori which was causing gastritis and reflux.

I googled and scared myself to death but she was referred to a gastroenterologist and he reassured me it was very common and it was sorted with antibiotics.

Hope she feels better soon

UnnecessarilyUpset · 01/02/2020 21:35

Agree with A&E. Hope she's better soon Flowers

DontTellMeCalmDown · 01/02/2020 21:45

A&E will do nothing only annoy you. You will wait for hours to see a doctor, and then they will tell you to see your GP.
You need to bring her back to the GP.
I took a worm dose in my early twenties and my stomach has not been right since.

student26 · 01/02/2020 21:48

Stomach migraines? I had them as a young adult and they were often crippling. The pain comes and goes in waves. I think people have mentioned this further up thread.

regularbutpanickingabit · 01/02/2020 21:49

My son had similar symtoms with this excruciating pain followed by absolutely nothing. He had diverticulitis and a course of antibiotics cleared it up. It was awful to watch though.

Pumpkintopf · 01/02/2020 22:00

My son ended up referred to hospital by ooh gp over an Easter with suspected appendicitis. He was in pain but could hop, jump, etc etc. They were on the verge of sending us home saying it couldn't possibly be appendicitis when his bloods came back - he was in surgery within half an hour but his appendix had started to burst. So may be worth getting bloods done to rule it out?

Waterlemon · 01/02/2020 22:13

Movicol is not a laxative. It holds moisture in the stools so they are softer and easier to pass. (Which is why it can take a while to work) she may still need an additional mild laxative to get everything moving again. But that’s if it’s constipation she is struggling with,

I’d get her seen again.

yeraballoon · 01/02/2020 22:14

The first thing I thought was appendix.

If it is constipation (which it well could be) then a warm bath, plenty of water to drink and rub her tummy is clockwise circles/ask her to bicycle her legs should help a bit.

When she sits on the toilet, put something under her feet so her knees are raised above her hips.

Justaboy · 01/02/2020 22:41

Second the poster who said no Ibuprofen, that will nt do your gut/s any good.

If it were me i'd have her up to hospital sooner rather than later, i really think thats where she ought be.

Don't like the blood in poo not a good sign, and curious of the green poo?

FlamingGalar · 01/02/2020 22:43

Hi op,
I’m no medical expert by any means but I am a nutritional therapist and see symptoms like this in clinic on a regular basis. I would take your dd to a&e to be properly assessed for appendicitis as soon as possible. If this is ruled out I would push for your gp to assess for Coeliac disease, colitis and crohns and to do a stool test for h pylori infection. In the meantime as a precaution I would suggest cutting out all gluten containing foods just in case it is coeliac disease, although if your daughter is tested she will have to be eating gluten in the run up to the bloods/ biopsy.
So sorry your daughter is suffering so badly.

FlamingGalar · 01/02/2020 22:45

Just to add to my previous post, it’s more than likely the pain is none of the above but all are definitely worth investigating especially appendicitis and this needs to be ruled out ASAP.

Poppinjay · 01/02/2020 22:48

Appendicitis can be really hard to diagnose. I've had one DD (aged 6) discharged three times with it in two weeks and when I took her back in after it had perforated, I had to have a row with the A&E doctor to get her assessed. A urine test had her admitted and in theatre as quick as a flash once they listened. She did the hopping test not long before it perforated and passed because the consultant got her to hop while standing on the bed.

The other DD was in and out over a similar period and listed for theatre twice before they decided it was anxiety based. They were right.

If the pain continues at the same level tomorrow, could you take her to your nearest children's hospital?

FlamingGalar · 01/02/2020 22:50

Just read the bit about the green poo. I’d also push for a test for giardia
