To think there is something really wrong with Dd's tummy?

Apologies in Advance for the grammar \typos posting from a phone with broken screen!

Dd is 9. Last Sunday night she was in tears with bad tummy. Monday I booked an appt first thing with Gp, she then said she felt absolutely fine, so I called back and cancelled. Obviously she almost immediately said it was really painful.

So took her to pharmacist who said she could try gaviscon and some sort off wind tablets as she thought it wAs trapped wind causing the symptoms. Didn't really do anything tbh and she still hurt Tuesday so she stayed home a second day. Intermittent pain but less than Monday.

Wednesday she went to school but they called me to collect her after lunch when the pain came back. I got a doc appointment for the evening. Doctor said it was reflux, eat more yogurt. Come back in a week if not any better.

Thursday and Friday intermittent pain.

Today she felt terrible so 111 organised an out off hours appt with a practice nurse. She said it felt like dd had constipation and could feel it in her stomach. Gave us movicol. Said it could take a couple days.

She has had four sachets today and still in pain. But she has been for two poos. She was pretty hysterical just now when I tried to get her to sleep. She's just laying next to me in pain.

It feels like one side under her rib is puffier than other side

Symptoms to date have been

Nausea
Acid reflux
Bloat
Tiny bit of blood in poo
Green poo twice (I haven't seen it, her description)
head ache
Churning tummy
Pain all over stomach to the touch and inside

She hasn't had fever

Three HCPs and three different ideas for what is wrong. HmmSad

Thoughts?

My DS had symptoms like this at 13. The emergency doctor told DH it was a pulled muscle. I took him back the next day and demanded a second opinion so we were reluctantly referred to A and E. A doctor there listened to me and took blood tests, the white blood cell count was 10 times higher than he it should have been. He had a liver abscess and that doctor saved his life. Take your DD to A and E and make them listen to you.

meandmylot · 01/02/2020 20:15

Does she get any relief after she's passed wind? If not I'd be tempted to rule out the constipation/wind. What is her diet like at the minute? Could it be anything like gluten? I would also worry about appendicitis as it seems like it's commonly missed.

TurtleTop · 01/02/2020 20:17

@anon2000000000 yes everyone was sick for like All winter this year Hmm and then the kids had worms two weeks ago Envy Frankly sick of everyone being sick!

The point of getting a child to hop is that IF it is appendicitis hopping will cause a lot of pain. Not that the ability to hop means it can’t be appendicitis.
That nurse has got her diagnostic technique wrong.
Google it and get your child to A& E if necessary.

scoobdoob · 01/02/2020 20:18

Urine infection?

Gogolego · 01/02/2020 20:19

Has she had blood tests at all?

Duvetdweller · 01/02/2020 20:20

My dd had similar around 10. Took her to a&e at one point, was convinced she had appendicitis. She was referred for a scan and nothing. Eventually diagnosed with mesenteric adonitis which effectively means a migraine in their tummy. It’s like if they feel poorly that’s where it presents. She’s not had it for about 6 months and she’s just turned 12.

SeaToSki · 01/02/2020 20:20

So she had worms two weeks ago..is that right? What did you treat it with?

Gogolego · 01/02/2020 20:21

It might be kidney or gall stones. Enlarged spleen or something to do with her liver

TurtleTop · 01/02/2020 20:21

I'm going to leave thread for a bit as hard to look after dd and type on shit phone! stillI reading replies though thanks to everyone who has responded

I had this at 9 and it was constipation. I was still pooing as it was going around the impacted poo as people said. I spent about 5 days in hospital as they could feel the abdominal lumps and wanted to do tests.

Girlattheback · 01/02/2020 20:23

I feel for you and your dd, poor thing. It’s awful seeing them in pain and not knowing if it’s anything more serious .... it always seems to be at weekends FFS. My DD suffered for years until we finally found root cause.

It’s great that you’ve had her checked out a couple of times this week, but agree you should get her re checked if you think it’s getting worse.

Movicol can be slow to work, if you’re fairly certain it’s constipation then warm baths help the pains and can also speed things up a bit...relaxes everything.

Ovex

SpeedofaSloth · 01/02/2020 20:25

Sorry OP, I missed a message and didn't reply.

When we've had a clear an impaction we've never needed to go beyond 6 sachets a day TBH. DS' current dose is two sachets and we expect that to be for some months again (he's 11, first happened age 6mo).

He's been tested for thyroid (Hashimoto's), Coeliac and Crohn's and thankfully it's none of those, but he is currently dealing with post-infectious IBS following a gastro bug last year. He is getting better and we hope it won't be forever. The very painful bowel spasms have stopped, he too was checked over for appendicitis, mesenteric adenitis, salmonella etc. due to the pain. Buscopan Cramps helped a bit.

His teachers know urgency can be an issue and they've been great at discreetly making sure he can always get to a loo fast on a bad day. If you're worried about accidents I'd suggest asking them for support, and packing spare pants/ wipes/ nappy bag in a washbag for your child to carry into school discreetly.

The Eric website is incredibly helpful regarding constipation, if it does turn out to be that.

Christmashope19 · 01/02/2020 20:27

My DH was unwell a few years ago which is unlike him
Was sick and stomach cramps
Called out of hours dr who took one look at him and told me to make sure I let him rest 😂
Next day my gut instinct told me something was wrong so I took him to dr, dr said he’s 99% it’s not appendicitis but if it keeps you happy Mrs Christmas then we will send him to hospital for a scan lo and behold within a couple of hours between waiting for him to be seen and getting onto a ward his appendix had burst
Trust your instincts

Instagrrr · 01/02/2020 20:29

My boy has something similar a while ago and it was something to do with glands getting pinched in tummy muscles

kingkuta · 01/02/2020 20:29

Did you tell the doctor about the green poo? Quick Google shows this could be Salmonella or the parasite Giardia. Might be worth having a check of the symptoms of these and seeing if they fit your dd.

WellTidy · 01/02/2020 20:33

I had horrendous pain with wind off and in for years as a kid. It didn’t stop until I was at university. My mum used to make me a small glass of whiskey, sugar and hot water and I would sip it and I would make clockwise circles on my tummy with a flat hand.

TurtleTop · 01/02/2020 20:37

Sorry can't respond to everyone, we live literally about two mins drive from hospital so will go if sher gets any worse. Forgot to mention the green poo as only happened once a few days ago until today after nurse. No blood tests done and not been tested for coeliac etc

OP posts:
SeaToSki · 01/02/2020 20:38

She might not have passed all the worms, or she might have had a side effect to the ovex. Did you tell the doctor that she has had ovex?

anon2000000000 · 01/02/2020 20:41

Could it be mesenteric adonitis? Have a google and see if the symptoms fit.

My son was so bad with abdo pain the hospital thought he had appendicitis. It can be common after a bout of viral illnesses and very painful if it's a severe bout.

Ellapaella · 01/02/2020 20:43

When you said she had worms recently - our family had to take the tablets just before Christmas due to one of the kids having it. The medication gave me 3 weeks of abdominal discomfort, nausea, bloating and constant belching. Just a thought.
Best get her checked out properly though, good luck.

Ericabro · 01/02/2020 20:44

Please do NOT give ibuprofen it is dangerous maybe try fresh orange juice to help her go to the toilet and if you do take her to hospital please ask for a H pylori test hope she soon feels better

soberfabulous · 01/02/2020 20:44

My DD has had this since she was six months old and has been on movicol since then.

We've seen a gastro paediatrition and she has been tested for crohn's, celiac all negative. She gets bouts of agonizing pain and constipated for 6 days. After lots of movicol her record was 12 poos in a day!

We've cut out most wheat which has helped. It seems like good old fashioned IBS although her pain is horrendous. She's missed school over it.

Do tell us how you get on.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 01/02/2020 20:51

Coeliac, lactose intolerance or IBS can cause those symptoms (depending on how "green" that poo was or whether it was more yellowy). Ask to be referred to a dietician.
