To take Morning after pill or not

Dumbanddumber20 · 01/02/2020 18:32

Name changed because I am horrifically embarrassed that I am in this position, and posting here for traffic so pls forgive .

Had sex Thursday afternoon , condom broke and DH pulled out as soon as noticed. He didn’t “cum” inside me , ejaculated a few strokes of his hand later on my stomach. I didn’t think much of it till today I checked my app and realised I’m due to ovulate today, and then I thought of Precum . I ended up talking to my two best friends over lunch about it today because thanks to my OCD it’s nagging away at me and I had popped to boots and got the 72 hour after pill (the pharmacist said my chances were very low but better safe than sorry)

Friend T insisted there is nothing to worry about as he went to “piss” before, and chances are low, (I’m cringing writing this so I do apologise) . Where as Friend N said morning after pills increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy and filled my head so much with it that I’m now sat here with the pill , my OCD raging and I don’t know what to do ...
I for mental heath reasons can not get pregnant, it’s not even something I can think about , but my brain is absolutely spinning so for gods sake can someone sensible please talk some sense to me .

@yeraballoon
@SleepingStandingUp
I haven’t tried the mini pill, that is something to look in too. I was too scared to rely on any type of pill after the last incident , but maybe it’s time to look back in to it .

@DimplesToadfoot what steps did you take ? I’ve seen 2 different gps at my surgery , both won’t even consider it .

You could use it with the condoms as well to be extra safe.
It made my skin amazing the whole time I was on it.

OldTownRoadHome · 01/02/2020 19:44

Your friends are idiots, what does having a wee before have to do with anything Confused

Stop overthinking and googling, it’s very simple:

Take the pill = less likelihood of getting pregnant.

So take the pill and move on.

HRA1971 · 01/02/2020 19:50

yes - definatly. if you are not ready for a baby (potentially) then yes. If you did get pregnant the solutions are not that comfortable (or easy). If you want to take a contraception then there are plenty of options other than the pill.- injections every 3 months/marine coil. etc. What ever you decide it needs to be fast - within 72 hours and the later the less effective. Hope you get the result you want for you right now.

Dumbanddumber20 · 01/02/2020 19:52

@yeraballoon thank you , I am definitely going to ask about it , and yes lol the condoms will definitely be staying .

@OldTownRoadHome sadly simply to stop overthinking is not that simple . Once a thought is in my head I obsess and obsess and will now for I don’t know how long .
As for the pee comment apparently according to her , having a wee kills any sperm that pre cum might collect in the urethra (not sure if spelt right)

ps - going for a piss - really . lets hope he doesn't think that is a suitable prevention. and no there is no increased risk of eptopic pregnancy etopic is caused by sperm meeting egg in fallopian tube area - happens to anyone. The morning after pill kills the sperm. However as it is past the 72 hours u could take it and do a test that will tell you if you are how far along..talk to your doctor - they can test and give you advice. Terminations (if oyu are ) can be done on NHS.

coffeeforone · 01/02/2020 19:59

You've got it now so just take it, it's not going to do any harm.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 01/02/2020 19:59

Would you consider a coil?

PS - take the MAP

DimplesToadfoot · 01/02/2020 20:02

Every time I went to the doctor whether for me or the children I asked if I was old enough yet, the reply was always no, but one slipped up once and said "no you're too fat" so I replied if I lose weight will you refer me" I think I had worn him down and in exasperation he sighed and said yes but I had to lose 3 stone, I'm sure he thought I wouldn't. I went back a few months later, asked him to refer me, he said no I was too young so I pulled him up on the fact he'd said he would if I lost weight, I'd lost weight was he going to stick to his word? So he referred me.

I went to see the consultant who said no, I was too young. So I moaned that my doc said I could if I lost weight blah de blah and it was not fair and I didn't want any more kids, consultant said keep the weight off and come back in 6 months, 6 months later I went back, consultant again said no, so I very stroppily said" well if I get pregnant again I'm personally asking for you to perform the abortion" I was steralised a couple of weeks later

bringbackspanishflu · 01/02/2020 20:14

I too it twice last year. We had a dodgy batch of durex(there was actually a recall from durex) and we had two occasions within about 2 month of split condoms.

Take it, I had no issues with it and if you don't want to get pregnant it's a sensible idea.

SunshineCake · 01/02/2020 20:15

The only decision is take the pill as you said you can't be pregnant. And maybe get less coarse friends.

StealthMama · 01/02/2020 21:53

The map works by doing 3 things :

  1. Prevents releasing an egg if ovulation hadn't yet occurred.
  2. Prevents the egg being fertilised
  3. Prevents any fertilised egg from attaching to the uterine lining

Given he didn't actually ejaculate inside you and send a wave of eager swimmers in there... take the pill and you'll be fine.

SilverySurfer · 01/02/2020 22:27

It's simple.

Don't want to get pregnant - take the pill
Don't mind getting pregnant - don't take the pill

It's not rocket science is it.

feeona123 · 01/02/2020 22:31

The MAP doesn’t work if you’ve already ovulated. Trust me I know it doesn’t!

PepePig · 01/02/2020 22:34

Unsure of how many "take the pill" responses OP needs until she decides to/not to.

I feel like I'm in school again. Either take the advice or risk it. But there's no point dragging the thread out longer over something so simple.

bitheby · 01/02/2020 22:38

She has OCD. Life isn't quite that simple. I'm sure she wishes it was even more than PP do.

haveyoutriedgoogle · 01/02/2020 22:39

I’m always so sceptical of how many ‘accidental’ pregnancies seem to occur according to mumsnet. And then I read that people are giving/listening to/even considering advice like this:
Friend T insisted there is nothing to worry about as he went to “piss” before, and chances are low
And all of a sudden it makes sense.
Take the pill, OP. And for gods sake, do not listen to a word that comes out of Friend T’s moth, ever because they are clearly a total fuckwit.

haveyoutriedgoogle · 01/02/2020 22:39

*mouth, even 😂

RandomMess · 01/02/2020 22:44

TBH I'd get the coil fitted.

I would look at paying to be sterilised if ever being pregnant is a complete no.

Thanks
ChickenNugget86 · 02/02/2020 01:08

The mini pill worked for me. You take a tablet every day at the same time with no breaks and I didn't get any periods which was a bonus!

fligglepige · 02/02/2020 01:32

The coil can also be used as emergency contraception I believe, and would be handy for you as you're intending to get pregnant.

BitOfFun · 02/02/2020 01:39

Take the pill, and speak to the practice nurse abut having a mirena coil fitted. In most cases, your periods stop or become much lighter. And it would save all this worry about condoms.

GlamGiraffe · 02/02/2020 01:40

I'd take it but to be extra sure you can have a copper coil emergency contraception put in asap at your local gum clinic. Just walk in.

Lifecanonlygetbetter · 02/02/2020 01:40

Take it now. We had a split condom on a Saturday night in the days when you could not get the MAP over the counter. GP prescribed 2 days later, so taken less than 48 hours after sex, and I got pregnant. The earlier you take it, the more effective it is. Hurry up!

firesong · 02/02/2020 01:46

I had an ectopic pregnancy after taking the morning after pill. I'be never been sure about if it caused it, but it was dreadful and resulted in an emergency operation that was frightening.

When a condom broke more recently I had a coil fitted within five days as emergency contraceptive.
