Tenant left with debts

Tenant of many years has now moved on. Found that unbeknown to us, he had swapped the gas and electric meters to prepayment ones. After several weeks of sorting it out, it has become apparent that the tenant left debts of £7000 on the gas and £4000 on the electric bills. I have been told by the energy provider that we don't have to pay the tenant's debts. They have refunded us for the money we have accidentally paid off the tenant's debts when the money we were putting on the meters was being swallowed up.

My question is however, will the house be "Blacklisted" even though the tenant has moved on?

Definitely did not grow cannabis in the attic. I was so freaked out by my fears that they might be growing cannabis when the wires mysteriously appeared at the front of the house I did check. The attic was full of crap, but definitely no plants in situ.

Tenant never really came clean what the wires about, but we drew the conclusion at the time that it was to get Sky in upstairs bedroom.

yes, people do grow cannabis in attics, although happily not in this case.

This sounds so similar to my current house. I bought off a landlord who’d evicted the previoys tenant for non-payment of everything and the tenant had bypassed the meters for gas and electricity and done all sorts of wiring/cabling to all rooms upstairs (but not loft). He was subsequently arrested in another house for growing canabis in his lift (I googled the name on the final demands that kept appearing).

loft not lift. Lift would be a bit obvious!
