Currently I work for the same company but do 2 job roles. I work 22 hours in one role and 4 hours in the other role.
When I took the job on it was initially for the 22 hour role but because I had experience, they offered me 4 hours doing the other role. I have set days doing each role and don't work the 2 roles any of the days I work ( Monday, Wednesday, Thursday role 1, Tuesday role 2). Role 2 is more specialised and needs relevant training and qualifications.
I prefer role 1 but need the extra income generated from the 4 hours doing the second role. There are 5 other people in the team doing role 2. One is retiring soon and another wants to change her hours to the day I do the role. This will leave a gap on Thursdays. Head of team for role 2 has demanded I change my days and work Thursday in role 2. There are only myself and one other team member doing role 1, and moving my days would mean she would have to change her days or I would have to do both roles on the Thursday, half a day each, which I don't really want to do as both roles are demanding and it's hard to get in the right head space after spending all morning doing one role to then immediately swap to the second role.
I have said no but now the head of team for role 2 has caused a huge row by saying she is my boss for those 4 hours and I will work them when she needs me to work them. I heard her bitching about me to the business partner saying I was being stubborn and difficult. I have now said I will stop doing role 2 as honestly don't want the stress of working for someone who thinks they can use me as a pawn in her game but now wondering if I have made the right decision as can't afford to lose the income from role 2. What would you advise me to do?
