I have Chronic Urticaria which is a condition where you can be covered in hives for long spells. I have had anaphylaxis before and I carry 3 epi pens.

I’ve just finished eating some toast. While eating the toast, I noticed that my hands were shaking.

Since finishing, my lips and mouth are tingling a lot although no signs of swelling.

I suffer from anxiety and because I’ve previously experienced that feeling of my throat tightening, I am petrified of it. The problem is, my anxiety is now through the roof. I have had experiences in the past where I am unsure if my throat has been tightening because of anaphylaxis or if I’ve been having some kind of panic attack because of the fear of it happening again.

I’m on my own and trying to calm myself down. There’s nothing to do yet. I have my epi pens with me and my phone to call 999 if it does progress. I’ve taken a very high dose of antihistamines a minute ago so I’m hoping that kicks in soon.

Sorry if I’m rambling on. I’m just a bit scared.

How are you doing OP?

Veterinari · 31/01/2020 14:30

You're not alone, take some breaths, try and distract yourself with MN for a minute and keep your epi pen close

AceOfSpades1 · 31/01/2020 14:32

I’m okay. Just glad of some company while this hopefully passes. I know I’ve got plenty of medication and paramedics at the end of the phone but this fear is just awful. I feel like I’ve got a natural rush of adrenaline somehow which is making me shake. I need to leave the house soon to pick up DD from school. I’m thinking going out and taking everything with me will be a good distraction if it hasn’t quite passed yet.

Handhold! I get like this, deep breaths and try and distract yourself with anything. Text someone to talk to maybe? Keep your epi pen and phone to hand.

Veterinari · 31/01/2020 14:42

Glad you're doing ok OP. Hope the anxiety is passing?

KittenVsBox · 31/01/2020 14:42

Can you unlock the front door too, so the paramedics can get in if you do need them.
If you were my neighbour, I would come and sit with you for a bit. Do you know anyone nearby?

Hope the antihistamine kicks in, and everything calms down soon.

I’m out on the school run now. Still shaking a little but I guess it’s probably better being out somewhere busy anyway. Thanks for helping me to try to stay calm

I hope you are feeling better OP. I have a nut allergy and find it hard to control my anxiety around it. Often feel like I’m my throat is starting to close, and I know it’s anxiety. Deep breathing and distraction help me. Also I keep taking sips of water which reassured me my throat isnt^^ closing up and I can still swallow.

How are you doing @AceOfSpades1 ?

Tombliwho · 31/01/2020 16:46

Hope you're okay OP

AceOfSpades1 · 31/01/2020 17:05

I’m feeling a lot better! Thanks so much everyone.

I wouldn’t say i’m 100% and I do think my condition is flaring up just now. I didn’t realise the connection until after I posted but yesterday both my eyes were sore and swollen so that seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

Did you take any tablet ?
I got a very bad reaction to a tablet and it took about 3 hrs to kick in.
From taking the tablet to three hours later when I reacted with swelling lips and terrible sensation through my body.
Luckily I had anti histamine with me.
