I know there's a recipe section but it's more popular here...

Can you hit me with your best ones please?

NO mushrooms as DH hates them Hmm

@Psychologika you can get vegetarian parmesan cheese, it's just called vegetarian Italian hard cheese rather than vegetarian parmesan because parmesan is a protected name.

Psychologika I never knew Parmesan was not vegetarian It never even occurred to me - thanks for informing me!

You obviously missed the doozy of a thread on here not so long ago where everybody was arguing about parmesan and whether it was veggie or not, got a bit bunfighty Grin

KillingEvenings · 30/01/2020 21:06

Psychologika she specified veggie Parmesan

MrsKoala · 30/01/2020 21:11

Recently our meals have been:
Jamie Oliver’s allotment cottage pie, his scruffy aubergine lasagne, and the veg mousaka.
Spiced bean burgers, chips, sweet corn salsa and a homemade slaw.
Tofu and rice noodle and veg ramens or coconut soups
Curries and Dhaal in the slow cooker
Vedgeree with duck eggs
Sharing board of falafel, halloumi, pitta, houmous, salad, tabouleh etc
Risotto
Pizza
rosemary and red onion veg sausages, mash and veg and gravy
Onion tart Tatin and gravy
Quiche and new potatoes and veg

ChopOrNot · 30/01/2020 21:16

So far anything from this book. The Hasselback Squash is AMAzing. As is the quick cheese and onion tart, crispy gnocchi, squash stew, Yum

Sexnotgender · 30/01/2020 21:21

Apparently Parmesan is only a protected name in the EU.

I’m a member of a vegetarian Facebook group and had some snotty American have a proper go at me for saying Parmesan wasn’t vegetarian 😏

KarmaStar · 30/01/2020 21:25

Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages in road in the hole or as sausage and mash.

HostessTrolley · 30/01/2020 21:50

@Psychologika - yeah I know - I call it veggie Parmesan but it’s sold as ‘vegetarian hard cheese’, looks like a block of Parmesan and is usually next to it in the fridge in the supermarket - but doesn’t contain rennet.

I’m not veggie but my Dd is, all the family enjoy the roasted tomato pasta and it’s fast and easy

KatharinaRosalie · 30/01/2020 21:56

Anything from the Green Roasting tin

NationMcKinley · 30/01/2020 22:01

Jarred antipasti artichokes in herby olive oil chopped up with green olives, chilli (optional) and a fuckton of vegetarian hard cheese / Parmesan substitute. Use most of the oil from the jar.

Stir through cooked fresh pasta - I usually use tagliatelle. It’s bloody lovely and literally takes the time it takes the pasta to cook. Result.

iabvvu · 30/01/2020 22:07

Gnocchi bake!
You can use anything but I love tomato sauce with blobs of pesto and big chunks of mozzarella with more cheese grated on top (it's not healthy)

Grammar · 30/01/2020 22:10

Tacos with beans, veggie mince, cream and cheese with coleslaw

PurpleDaisies · 30/01/2020 22:13

Quite a lot of cheese isn’t vegetarian. It pisses me off that grana padano keeps posting “vegetarian” recipes on Facebook when it is made with calf rennet. Lots of wine also isn’t vegetarian.

I love any spicy food. Vegan Richa’s website has lots of great options. The tofu lababdar is my favourite.

@iklboo Red Dragon Pie is great, I used to make it regularly for the kids. Its from Sarah Brown's book and one of her many great family recipes.

That blogger is a CF though - reproduce and recommend a good recipe by all means but they should credit the original!

C8H10N4O2 · 30/01/2020 23:16

Oh I take it back - there is a mention of Sarah buried in the text, odd that the poster calls it "their" recipe.

I don't know what happened to Sarah Brown. Like Rose Elliot she used to do a lot of fairly practical vegetarian food made with easily available and seasonal ingredients. I used them to death when all the kids were young.

ChangeInTime · 30/01/2020 23:18

They do credit the original if you read the post.

Red Dragon Pie is basically the best vegan shepherd’s pie and it has been a staple in our house for as long as I can remember. The recipe it is based on can be found in the pages of our very battered copy of the fabulous Sarah Brown’s Vegetarian Kitchen

ChangeInTime · 30/01/2020 23:18

X post.

BohoBunney · 30/01/2020 23:20

If you have Instagram (they may be on Facebook too but I don’t have it) look for “todaywecooked” they’re great. Their honey sesame tofu is amazing!

C8H10N4O2 · 30/01/2020 23:22

They do credit the original if you read the post

Yes I spotted when I went back but I do think its a bit cheeky to title a blog as their own recipes and themselves as a recipe developer. Unless you went down through the whole recipe you would assume it was the blogger's.

I've posted that exact recipe myself and others but I'd always call it "X's recipe for" or REcipe X (from "Cookery writer").

Maybe its just me!

Africa2go · 30/01/2020 23:22

We've done vegetarian January. Discovered the Linda McCartney shredded duck & pulled pork substitutes - not exactly the same but near enough.

Hippee · 30/01/2020 23:22

Risotto - with pesto and goats cheese (Asda do fab pots of goats cheese balls)

I have just discovered Jack Monroe and love her Carrot and bean burgers

Curry with onion, carrot, chickpeas, tinned tomatoes, curry paste, broccoli and spinach

OhioOhioOhio · 30/01/2020 23:26

Ommeletts are yum too.

My naughty meals are:
Haloumi fish and chips

Couldren sausages as hotdogs with loads of onions

Cheese and onion pie

However I am on perpetual soup all week and this is making me hungry!
