Feeling really anxious

Posting here for traffic really.

I have a UTI, I went to the doctor’s today and after he dipped my urine he said I had an infection.
I’ve had symptoms a few days, the reason I didn’t get checked sooner is I was due on my period, now my period has come and I’ve got the same symptoms, if not worse. I always have cramps and frequent urinating before a period, so I thought it was that.
Now I’m worried I’ve left it too long and it’s going to travel to my kidneys.
I have quite a lot of pain low down in my tummy, feels a bit like period pain, constantly need to wee, even when I’ve just been, feels like there’s more in there. No stinging or burning, but a weird sensation at the end of urinating, like a little tingle or pull.

GP has given me three days worth of nitrofurantoin, taking two a day.
Has anyone else had this one? Does it work? I just want to feel better now.

Btw I have no fever.

It should work quite quickly op. My mum gets uti's quite often and they're so bad she can't even make it to the doctor as she's running to the loo every 2 minutes. The nitrofurantonin should work fine op yours doesn't sound terrible at the mo. Of course though contact your doctor if you're worried.

@HundredsAndThousandsOfThem should it work in 24 hours?

Hi OP I feel for you, sadly I get about 5/6 UTI's a year & the nirtofurantoin do work. You will feel a bit less stingy after the first day of taking them. I find that taking paracetomol helps ease the strange heavy achy stomach feeling when I'm in the midst of cystitis Thanks

I get it so bad that I bleed & it drips down the loo like a heavy period. Sorry TMI.

Cystitis is AWFUL.

You'll be fine. The GP would have asked you if you have any lower back pain etc to assess your kidneys.
The antibiotics will nip it in the bud.
Very common antibiotic for a not severe water infection :)
