to have booked Turkey in May?

Me and DP went to Antalya, Turkey last year. We went alone, last minute, as our children (my DS 13, his DD 5) happened to holiday with their other parent in the same week. We went end of July, weather was glorious but in my opinion, too hot for my very very fair DS and his young DD.
Anyway, getting to the point! We said we were definitely going back to Antalya this year with the children, he left it to me to book when and what hotel etc, apparently I know best eye roll
So I’ve booked a lovely hotel for May half term for us all. DP is a bit apprehensive as although we don’t want too hot for the children, we do want sunbathing/playing in the pool weather! Now I’m doubting myself! Should I have booked later in the year? Is it not hot enough at the end of May? Has anyone been at that time of year and can resssure me?! DP fully admits he left it to me and will happily go with what I’ve booked but says he just assumed i would book it for summer, not May half term.
Any experience would me much appreciated!

I went last year at the beginning of June, it was quite hot but it wasn't uncomfortable (got terrible sunburn)

Going back same time this year

I think it will be perfect weather for what you want to do, don't stress about it it'll be lovely

happytoday73 · 30/01/2020 14:51

We went for 10 days may/June half term a few years ago and it was 32C in the shade for 3 of those days.. Hotter than I expected. No rain, 2 hottest days were overcast. Definitely beach weather every day

annielouisa · 30/01/2020 15:03

I have holidayed in Turkey many times in May with my late DH the weather has been lovely.

GoodJobSteve · 30/01/2020 15:07

Should be fine - weather might still be in 'flux', so you might get the odd shower/thunderstorm, but it will (probably) be lovely and warm.

HilaryBriss · 30/01/2020 15:14

I am going for 7 days the week before May half term, this will be the 5th year we have been at that time and it has been sunbathing weather all the way apart from 1 day of rain.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 30/01/2020 15:15

It will still be warm, but just bear in mind that the pool and sea won't have had much time to warm up!

msmith501 · 30/01/2020 15:17

May is usually rather warm albeit not scorchingly hot. Perfect time to go.

Rainbowbabymummy · 30/01/2020 15:31

I went to turkey the 3rd of May last year for 11 days and it rained and there was a thunder storm for about 3 days. The rest of the Time there was gorgeous (I got very burnt) , it wasn't until we left that the weather seemed to pick up a whole lot

Weather is perfect at that time of year. You might get one or two hours of rain but it will probably just be very warm and sunny with blue skies.

Jumping onto this thread, apol for being cheeky, but has anyone been to the same area at the end of April? Looking at it for this year but just wondering how warm it will actually be, thanks

ColourMyDreams · 30/01/2020 19:15

The weather is usually lovely in Antalya in May. Normally very warm and sunny.

Ponoka7 · 30/01/2020 19:18

@40andfeelingit, I always go on the TripAdvisor Forums for information.

noenergy · 30/01/2020 19:32

I went at the end of April last year and although the weather was nice, mid to high 20s the pool was freezing.

Before that I went in July and it was too hot,
So May half term should be perfect.

GeraldTippett · 30/01/2020 19:33

I so thought this was going to be a thread about booking your Christmas turkey in May and I was going to ask who you've booked it with 😅

smeerf · 30/01/2020 19:40

We go to Turkey often and if we go as early as May, we choose Antalya as it's warm (Bodrum, Fetiye etc would not be hot enough yet). Went last year and got a beautiful tan.

Shadowcats · 30/01/2020 19:41

I’ve been in May and October. Both times the weather has been lovely (highs of 32, lows of 28). There was a very windy thunderstorm in Oct in the evening but still very warm (about 24-26 at night).

Shadowcats · 30/01/2020 19:41

Sorry, Antalya in May, Bodrum in Oct.

Elizadoeslittle19 · 30/01/2020 19:42

We went end of may beginning of June last year, it was beach / pool weather every single day. It got hotter as the days went by, it was 30° the last couple of days. Great weather for the kids to go in the pool / sea. I'd recommend lots of factor 50 ! Enjoy Smile

Florencenotflo · 30/01/2020 19:42

We went to Lara Beach last year towards the end of May. They had a bit of a heat wave while we were there so it was nearer 30 - 34 degrees each day. It was slightly too hot for our 3 year old, but we went indoors during the hottest part of the day for some lunch and a snooze. It was suppose to be around 25 degrees which would probably have been perfect. And yes, the pools were still a bit chilly! It'll be fine!

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 30/01/2020 19:43

I've been in May. It was hot in the day (hot enough for the pool) but cool in the evenings - the restaurants all had blankets though. By cool I mean I was still wearing a summer dress but with leggings and a leather jacket.

Have you googled weather / climate for the resort you're going to? You'll be able to see average monthly temperatures

WeeBenny · 30/01/2020 19:43

We went in April 2016. Weather was perfect not too hot around 28 -32 blue skies every day and it never rained once

Pipandmum · 30/01/2020 19:44

My son is going to Turkey then. Average day temp is 24-28. I found out thru....google.

foodandwine89 · 30/01/2020 19:47

The pool, unless heated, will be quite cold still. The sea will definitely be too cold for small kids to play around in it. The weather will be great.

LtJudyHopps · 30/01/2020 19:58

We’ve been to Kos last week of May so fairly similar. It was nice and pleasant, the pools were a little cold but fine. I had a wrap for the evenings as they were a little cooler but overall it was nice and warm but not too hot. Perfect for kids!

Iamclearlyamug · 30/01/2020 20:11

May will be perfect, looking at high 20s early 30s, so not too hot and less likely to get rain. I've been there 5 or 6 times a year for the last 4 years and my partner is a Turk so I'm pretty well-informed :)
