I see so many posts about people with cleaners and I'm genuinely shocked at how many people do! Don't get me wrong, if our finances could stretch that far I'd love one and I'm so jealous Grin but I didn't realise it was so common. Do you have a cleaner?

Yabu - no
Yanbu - yes

I don't have one.
Unless I could have a housekeeper who does all the cleaning and tidying daily I don't see the point.
I might have a clean house on the days the cleaner comes but then I'll still have to clean the rest of the week. So I pay myself to do it!

moneydisability · 29/01/2020 19:36

I have one. I can’t afford it but I make cuts elsewhere or put off other things as I literally need the help for my mental health so for me it’s worth it

avocadotofu · 29/01/2020 19:43

I have one and most people I know have one too. I absolutely love our cleaner, she really makes my life so much better!

Northernsoullover · 29/01/2020 19:48

@Paperdolly I don't hide my stuff when my cleaner comes and my clients don't as far as I know (I have to pile up correspondence frequently) why would you? Do you think as a section of society we are untrustworthy?

Toomanycats99 · 29/01/2020 19:49

I have only had a cleaner for 12 months after becoming a single parent. It just helps me juggling working full time and commuting. I don't think I could easily give it up now. Would cut back in every other area.

Toomanycats99 · 29/01/2020 19:50

It helps my children keep their rooms tidy as I tell them she won't clean if it's messy!

Also makes me tidy up.

FilthyforFirth · 29/01/2020 19:51

I have one, but literally since the start of the year. DH has been depressed this past year, so no help at home, I have a 2 y/o and work full time. Something had to give and as we have cleared quite a but of debt I am now in a position to afford one.

It is making me tidy the house more the night before she comes but I see that as a good thing!

I would say around half my friends have cleaners and half dont.

NoFun21 · 29/01/2020 19:52

YANBU.

NoFun21 · 29/01/2020 19:53

But I don’t t have one

Bunnyfuller · 29/01/2020 19:53

Not us! High mortgage and 2 public services salaries

DelurkingAJ · 29/01/2020 19:57

We’ve had one since we could afford it. Even when it was just me and DH in a 1-bed flat. £20 a week never to come home after a full week and argue about whose turn it was to hoover on a Saturday morning, money well spent.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/01/2020 20:05

We could afford one and don’t love cleaning but I hate the thought of someone coming into the house who we don’t really know.

Paperdolly · 29/01/2020 20:35

Northernsoullover I don’t think cleaners are untrustworthy but I know, as in all walks of life, there are the odd bad apples. As there are in my line of work.

No intention to cause offence and love your name by the way. 😉

goodytooshoes · 29/01/2020 20:43

I don't have one. I wouldn't want one either. I hate it on holiday when housekeeping comes as I hate the thought of people being able to rummage through my things. On holiday I keep things clean and tidy and make the beds in the morning like I would at home. DH and I both work full time, have 2 kids and 2 cats and we keep the house clean any tidy. Always have. We could probably stretch to afford to have one but I wouldn't want one.

goodytooshoes · 29/01/2020 22:00

From reading this thread... do people have designated days to clean? I just clean every day, whatever needs cleaning. I leave for work at 6:20am for 12 hour shifts and often mop floors downstairs or bleach the toilet etc (quiet cleaning) before 6am. And clean what needs doing when it needs doing. Surely doing it bit by bit every day is better than one almighty clean every week? I have 2 cats so floors need hoovering and mopping pretty much daily to keep it my standard clean.

ItFigures · 29/01/2020 22:02

We do and it has been a godsend. Our cleaner comes twice a week and blitzes the place. I feel very lucky to be able to have that as I despise cleaning but am a bit obsessed with cleanliness and am a bit of a neat freak.
