to ask you for London speech therapist recommendations for older kids?

Hi all,

Regular but recently namechanged. I have a 10 year old DD who has some speech issues - a lisp and general problems with clarity.

She saw an SLT therapist at The Ruth Jacobs Children's Practice for about eighteen months aged 5/6. Some problems were resolved, and they advised to see if she grew out of remaining problems. She hasn't - and while she does brilliantly at school and teachers don't flag this up as being a big problem, people often still struggle to understand her, particularly people she meets for the first time. I did once hear some of her friends taking the piss a bit too :(

She's currently in Year 5 and I would really like to get her some help before she goes into Senior school. Trouble is, she associates SLT with being 'little' and tbh, I didn't think the therapy she had before was particularly brilliant.

I think we need to see someone new who can really engage with a bright, older kid - so many places seem geared to under 5's. Home visits would be very helpful, though not essential. We are in North London. I'd be SO grateful if anyone could make any recommendations. Thanks so much xx

Google ASLTIP - Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. You can find a list of SLTs in your local area. Look for someone who specialises in speech sound disorders if available.

Thank you Lottapianos. I have looked at ASLTIP and feel a bit overwhelmed by the huge number of therapists out there, so was really hoping for some personal experience/recommendations? x

Thank you Drinkciderfromalemon (love your name!) - I will check them out. Are there any individual therapists there you know of particularly?

Anyone else got any recommendations?
