To want mri to diagnose pelvic organ prolapse

Hello everyone

Has anybody had an mri to assess pelvic floor/pelvic organ prolapse in the UK?

I've been having a lot of issues with pop and the gynaecologist is suggesting an operation under GA to assess pelvic organs.

I'm keen to avoid surgery and have found journal articles about using mri as a good tool for diagnosing the situation of pop if there are multiple prolapses.

Sadly I cannot find any info online about this except from USA where it seems common practice. My next gynae appt isn't till end of March and there isn't any way to speak with a gynaecologist until then so am hoping a shout out would help!

Many thx in advance and happy Sunday!

Hi OP, I had surgery to correct a posterior and anterior prolapse in 2013. I didn’t have surgery or an MRI to diagnose though, just an internal examination by my gynae who recommended the surgery.

When he finally got in there, so to speak, things were a little worse than he’d originally thought, but just amended the surgery accordingly. He had pre-warned that he wouldn’t be 100% sure what we were dealing with until he operated so not a surprise.

I’m now 7 years post op and no further issues. But it sounds like yours might be more complex if he wants to examine under GA first? I admit I’d not be keen to have a GA just for exploratory purposes.

Thx Edwin bear, really glad your procedure went well and still good.

it seems hard to get a good diagnosis from the regular gynae check, it seems weird ths tits always laid on back as my symptoms are a lot worse when standing.

Yep, trying to avoid surgery as much as possible, so if the mri is useful seems like a really good non surgical option. My pop symptoms worsened considerably aftr the so called minimal invasive novasure so am super wary now.

Cheers!
