Security Lighting is a Nuisance - on 24/7

New neighbours moved in about 18 months ago. Their dad (an electrician) put up 2 x security lights that shine directly into the front of our house. Asked them politely to put the shade on so that it directed light downwards which they did for a little while but then late last year the dad took the shade off and now lights are on 24/7.
Causing us to but curtains and blinds for all rooms at the front which include the only living room, main bedroom and second bedroom plus bathrooms. So we can never pull the blinds up as these 2 lights just shine right in our eyes. When people come round they keep asking why we dont open our blinds & when we are having a lie in at a weekend, we have to keep the blinds closed. Any ideas on what I could do - the neighbour's dad is a really nasty guy & the couple are quite ignorant. We dont have any security lights on ours. Any views are helpful. I have looked at going the Council reporting route but just wanted to know others experiences please?

Get fog lights for the front of your house, point them right at their front room and bedroom and then play innocent.

A large mirror in the windows, to reflect the lights back to theirs, (facing outwards not towards you).

Ignorant of what?

Well I imagine OP means the neighbours are typically rude without much thought for others? That's what it typically means when you refer to people as ignorant.

OP, I agree with a prior poster that if they won't re fit the hoods your only other option is to fog light them in return and when they realise how unpleasant it is they may very well start to show a little more courtesy

Thanks everyone for your comments! i think purchasing a huge security light to give out what they are giving me sounds like a good option - its going to end up being 'light wars'! I expect criminals will love us as they will be doing their 'work' in daylight...

OP, I have nothing useful to suggest, but this might cheer you up a bit www.27bslash6.com/halogen.html

Contact the council as there is something about light pollution and the brightness which is regulated.

Contact the council. Domestic light nuisance is problem that can be dealt with :)

Don't get into tit for tat. Speak to them again and tell them that it's really affecting your sleep and ability to use your windows.
If that doesn't resolve it, report to the council

Fuck that. Go full lighthouse on them.
