Whose got a Sodastream? Do you use it often? And is it worth it?

Going off another current thread - Do you have a Soda Stream? Does it seem financially viable in comparison to buying pop/soft drinks? How good do the flavours stand up to the big commercial brands? Are the cannisters easy to swap/recharge? Do you feel it cuts down on your plastic waste for soft drinks within your family? (we had one years ago, and yes lots of fun! But do they stand the test of time?), are the concentrate pods recyclable? Lots of questions! Apologies 😳

I got mine a few weeks ago and love it. I wanted to cut down on my pop and juice consumption. I don't like tea or coffee so that basically left water. I detested still water as I find it boring to drink. I don't mind sparkling water as much so this really is brilliant for me.

I got the glass one at Xmas to cut down on plastic bottles and encourage me to drink more water.
I make a carafe for the evening and add some Belvoir cordial to each glass.
I'm sure the sugar isn't great but it's keeping me off the booze.

I love my SodaStream. Bought a couple of years ago when they were selling the basic one for £20 on their website. I also bought a spare canister so I never run out. Cheapest place I found to exchange is The Range, it’s a tenner when you bring your old one hopefully they haven’t put the price up since I’ve last been. Not terribly keen on the old own brand syrups, haven’t tried the new ones. We just use normal cordials when we want flavour. I particularly like Robinson’s lime and mint (great in mojitos and pimms Blush) and Ikea’s elderflower, DD likes Robinson’s orange and mango.

I exchange my gas canisters at Argos and I think Robert Dyas does them too

We add fresh lemon juice and lime juice to ours rather than using the pre made syrups. I've also put mint leaves in for a couple of days and then fizzed it. We drink loads. DH has a couple of bottles that are just for him and he drinks straight from the bottle.

I love mine. Used daily. Glass bottles sound scary when you’re essentially increasing pressure within them to create fizz, but entire bottle is encased in the machine so I believe it to be safe. The glass is thick and feels robust. I’ve stopped recycling a huge pile of plastic bottles since getting it. Taste-wise the bubbles are not as fine as those in Perrier but i prefer it this way. Also, using Brita filtered water means it doesn’t have the minerally flavour that some people dislike.
