just that really - surely by announcing it, anyone who recognises the situation will twig anyway? why not just keep it TOTALLY anonymous and not say anything at all about the name change?

Just curious

I don't take much notice if someone says they've name-changed. TBH I don't remember many usernames anyway. I'd rather look afresh at each new discussion, rather than contemplate the longevity of the OP's username.

@Fainne

People like me?! I'm sorry but you've got the wrong person, I probably expressed it badly but I've never done anything like that to a poster. I was using an illustration of examples I've seen were a poster has been criticised via use of Advanced Search

I don't condone it at ALL but I have seen it happen. I should have been clearer.

I have never name changed as I can't be arsed.

I don't start many threads anyway, and if I do it isn't about anything so sensitive that being identified really bothers me.

Some people who know me really well might just work out who I am from my username but that doesn't really bother me.

I've never really "got" the apparent need to name change at the drop of a hat, but maybe that is just me.

QuietCrotchgoblins · 22/01/2020 22:51

I tend to name change every few months. Like Pp said, individuals posts won't do much to identify me but 5 or 6 with specific iinfo are much more identifying.

If be mortified if some recognised me on hear from real life. I'm not sure why as I have nothing to hide!
