Getting things ‘for free’.
Taking ibrofen instead of ibuprofen.

Fatarseflanagan09 · 24/01/2020 11:41

My Granny used to say can I have a lend of instead of can I borrow, not sure if it’s a northeastern thing.

omegamale · 24/01/2020 11:46

Redlocks28 · 24/01/2020 11:46

Or ‘can you borrow me’ this?

lynfordthecrab · 24/01/2020 11:47

There was a condescending tumble dryer listed on market place recently, that tickled me!

AllideasAndNoAction · 24/01/2020 11:49

The condescending tumble dryer should join forces with the Religious Fridge. Grin

(You have to be an old timer to remember that one.)

skodadoda · 24/01/2020 12:45

‘Longtitude’ regularly heard on radio and tv.

CatInTheDaytime · 24/01/2020 13:00

"please may you [send me this info by lunchtime]."

Yes what is this please may you thing? I noticed Stacey Dooley saying it on Glow Up - "Please may you come through to the judging area" etc. Sounds so weird!

LadyB49 · 24/01/2020 13:40

I know someone who regularly posts that her ds is a little raskel !!

I do think that in speech what sounds like ... Could of.... is perhaps the abbreviation.... could've.

Somanysocks · 24/01/2020 14:02

@omegamale I'd love a harbour in my garden but would need to get a boat to make full use of it Grin

CrisPbacon · 24/01/2020 14:09

My favourite was a "fummin" colleague on Facebook who was determined to find the cultiprult 😂

CrisPbacon · 24/01/2020 14:13

Though I did once have a patient who was due at the INR clinic to have his warfarin check. He sagely informed me that he was "off to the iron ore place to get my wolverine checked"
I had visions of him wrestling a snarling animal into path lab

Imstaying50untilDHdoesit · 24/01/2020 14:26

How is Nevaeh pronounced?

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 24/01/2020 14:35

Would / should / could of (instead of have) I notice it all the more since the last grammar police thread I saw on here.. 😂
Loose / lose
To / too / two
Our / are
His / he’s
I can forgive (just about) my friends when they post these on Facebook (although I do cringe) but it really bugs me when it’s online articles or adverts, which really should have been proofread before posting.

Aglet · 24/01/2020 14:54

It irks when I hear people pronounce ice cream as i scream

Marleyj8 · 24/01/2020 15:16

@Imstaying50untilDHdoesit my niece pronounces it as Nevayah

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 24/01/2020 15:17

It's that or the way he says restaurannnnnnnn like he's French. He's not.

Is he Mickey Flanagan? Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 24/01/2020 15:19

Yes what is this please may you thing?

Scraping the barrel here, but could it be some twisted descendant of the "can I"/"may I" pedantry?

As in, "can I sit there?" (Is it even possible)
Vs "may I sit there?" (direct request to shift your bag you silly mare)

helberg · 24/01/2020 15:21

I've just seen "wether" on another thread and it reminded me that some people write "wether" or "weather" when they mean "whether". Drives me mad.

"Jump in the shower" drives me mad as well. It's not quite the same in that it isn't a grammatical or spelling error but it's ludicrous. Do people really jump in the shower? It's dangerous surely - you could slip and hurt yourself.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 24/01/2020 15:38

@helberg I assume they weren’t talking about sheep
