How does this happen? (Calling emergency services)

This morning whilst getting ready I couldn’t find my mobile so I called it using my landline, it didn’t ring so I was just about the hang up when I heard a voice. It was the emergency services! I never at any point dialled 999 so explained to them that it was an accident and hanged up. But how did it happen when I never called them, I literally put in my phone number. Has this happened to anyone else? Seemed really odd.

I definitely didn’t press 999 at all. I know for a fact I dialled my mobile. And my number doesnt have 112 in it so I don’t think it’s that.

did you find your mobile did it have a missed call on it from landline?

Odd. Maybe it bad been slightly off the hook and it’s a safety precaution?

I remember being in Canada and a friend tricking me to call a mobile number with 911 in it - I didn’t know that any number with 911 will put you through to emergency services. I was fucking livid when I got off the phone! Definitely doesn’t happen here, I have a number stored in my phone that has 999 as the final three digits.

No, no missed call on the phone, my number doesn’t have 112 in it or 999. I’m definitely not going crazy and dialled 999 by mistake lol that would be quite difficult to do I think, And I do know I put my number in. Hmm who knows then! I thought I had accidentally dialled a code or something for 999 that I wasn’t aware of.

I read this wrong and thought your mobile had dialled the emergency services. I discovered that pressing the lock button of my iPhone five times rapidly calls the emergency services. Made me jump when I did it by mistake. Handy though to know so I thought I’d share, even though it’s totally irrelevant to this thread.
