Cooking beef joint from frozen

GiBlues · 21/01/2020 09:28

As the title says really, I’ve forgotten to get a joint of beef out of the freezer last night for dinner tonight, can I just cook it from frozen?
I’ve had a quick google and I’ve found mixed opinions so thought I’d ask here.

TIA

Why not defrost in microwave?

MoonlightMistletoe · 21/01/2020 09:36

I would defrost in the microwave

inwood · 21/01/2020 09:37

If you get it out now it will be mostly defrosted by tonight?

I think i would, not a chicken but beef should be ok.

Seeline · 21/01/2020 09:38

The general advice is no.

The outside will be really overdone as you will need to cook for much longer to get the inside defrosted before it is cooked properly.

who eats a joint of beef on a Tuesday!!
I know I’m missing the point

Just Google timing for cooking from frozen. A meat thermometer would be great in this situation

I wouldn't for the reasons outlined by Seeline.

However, you can safely speed up defrosting by putting the joint (wrapped in a bag) in a sinkful of cold water. Maybe change the water a couple of times if it feels cold.

Or try the microwave defrost option, but watch out for hotspots.

I'd just leave it in the fridge and have it tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Decided against having it tonight and will save it for another day instead, not worth the risk.
Thanks all
